    bartholin gland cysts

geez, never never never use a guys narrow seat. it doesn't matter,if you are a slim lady either. i weigh between 117 and 120 usually. but i think it does have to do with the angle of the seat also, because this bike i have now, is a mountain bike but an elongated kind, with the low back tire, instead of the typical . so the seat is differently angled. anyhow, after riding, i came home and got ready to shower and there was something nearly the size of a ping pong ball, in the labia on one side. right in the spot where the soft tissue is behind the pelvic bone. that is the place that is on the outside of the seat. the pressure of the body weight caused a bartholins gland cyst. now its the size of an olive after two weeks. deep inside, and i don't want to mess with it because i read all that stuff about how painful it is to get surgical or drainage treatment. i have not been sexually active long before this and after, so it is not from sex. ( a sex diet, no special guy in my life, you know the old song), will the cyst go away on its own if i use some hot and or warm compresses?

    Did it go away?

Looks like no-one had any advice for you - how have things gone? A woman on one of my cross-country bike trips had a Bartholin's cyst flare up & had to take time off for treatment & join the group a few hundred miles later. I remember she was padding around the cyst area with maxipads worn between 2 pair of bike shorts. She probably had an incision/drainage - it wasn't a good thing! Hope yours has cleared up!

I had one of those about 20 years ago!! It was the most bizarre thing. It popped (ew). Doc put me on antibiotics just in case I guess. It cleared up. He said it was an infected bartholin's gland.

Saddle an irritant, but not the cause

well, I would not support your argument to 'never' use a 'guys narrow seat' (however you define that).

The cyst you have (or had) is a bacterial infection and blockage of the duct for the gland. Certainly sitting on a bike seat of any kind could cause irritation but it is not the root cause of the inflammation.

    See your doctor for treatment.

Generally speaking, a saddle should be level - with very minute tilt if necessary to personal comfort. I am assuming that you are wearing good quality cycling shorts?

Never heard of this either until it happened to me...had to have it surgically removed about 5 years ago. Doc said no cause (this was before serious biking) just "bad luck". Didn't hurt, just weird and bothersome and potentially can grow larger with time. Was an out-patient surgery, not much of a big deal all in all.

    Good luck!

    thanks for the info!

I'm back home now, but a 6 weeks ago I was midway through a two month tour in Spain-France-Italy and started to notice that my labia were asymmetrical and uncomfortable...

I searched for "labia" on the forums here (having previously looked up all sorts of info on saddle sores :6 ) and immediately came upon this post. I used google translate to write up a note explaining my situation and symptoms in French and, long story short, eventually got to a gynecologist in Marseilles who confirmed it was an unhappy "gland du Bartholin" and gave me antibiotics and the recommendation to stay off the bike for five days. And it went away, thank god, but thank you!! all for being here on Team Estrogen with the discussion so I knew what was happening and could stop freaking out.
