I just checked with a co-worker who has a house in Richmond. He says it's a 2 hour drive from here without traffic. So theoretically I could do a day-trip or two, but it would be a long day.

Unfortunatley it looks like hotels only take reservations one year in advance. Already checked into it.![]()
"The bicycle is just as good company as most husbands and, when it gets old and shabby, a woman can dispose of it and get a new one without shocking the entire community." -- Ann Strong, Minneapolis Tribune, 1895

Oh, we are SO excited! I'm seriously thinking of renting out my house...
Richmond is only about 100 miles from DC. Sometimes, however, it can take 2 hours to get to Springfield on 95. The train is usually a better option timewise, but the Staples Mill station is out in stripmall land and the Main Street station downtown is not well served by many trains. That is expected to change in the next few years with better Amtrak service to the Main Street station.
It is really exciting news for Richmond. There is a huge cycling community here and wonderful cycling roads. The city just hired their first pedestrian-bicycling coordinator, so we are expecting great things. Makes me happy to live here.
