For the first time in weeks, the temps were not in the 100+, or even 90+. It was going to be in the mid to upper 80's in the San Fernando Valley. No having to drive somewhere to find a half-way cool ride. I can go mountain biking just up the street from home. For September, most unusual. So I grab my stuff, check out the bike and head up to the top of Canoga Blvd. It's humid, but it's not 106f as it was just the day before yesterday. I start riding east on Dirt Mulholland to 'the hub' which is in the middle of the Santa Monica mtns. From there, I can continue to the beach if I feel up to it. I've got all day...
BOOM! What was that?? BOOM! I looked up and noticed that the humidity was actually a big thunderstorm right over my head. Big black swirling clouds. Odd for September. Heck, odd period. There was a storm warning on T.V., but for Long Beach and I am no where near Long Beach. FLASH! BOOM! I don't think it's a good idea to be on the highest point for 50+ miles with lightning storm right over my head. I sighed and turned around. 150 yards. Ok, I go to the LBS to pick up some tubes and maybe a new rear road cassette, and BOOM it starts pouring! Rain and hail. Now I am glad I am not on the mountain. Sigh. Tomorrow I am going to try again, but with the road bike.
