Washington DC’s Bikeshare is So Successful That Bikes are in Short Supply

Here's a great story about DC's fantastic bike share program. Here's to hoping that this movement takes the country by a storm... and that we add better bike lanes everywhere!

nice. I hope it works. I tried to use one of these in Milan and never could get the system to work.

It's been enormously successful in DC. The program has been operating there since September of 2010, and they cannot keep up with the demand. It's very exciting. Once again, I moved away just before things started to get interesting.

Love it! It's been a rousing success here in S.A. too (somewhat to my surprise): B-cycle: A rapid success story

Even though I have my own bicycle, I purchased a membership and have taken a couple of spins around downtown on the B-cycle bikes. They're remarkably comfortable and easy to use. It's a great way to see the sights.

We saw it while we were there in June. It looked like a great idea. We didn't use it as we weren't sure what exactly we were doing that day (ended up seeing some of the monuments and one of the Smithsonian museums). Sunday did just several museums. If we'd have been there for longer it was something we'd most likely have tried to use. We also saw several bike racks that were either empty or had just one or two bikes at them. I was just happy that we figured out the metro and it wasn't too hard to use, just got off at the wrong station twice....oopps.
