Any medical spa aestheticians in the family?

I'm wondering about microdermabrasion. I have normal skin, I think, but I do have spidery capillaries across my nose and cheeks. It looks like early rosacea, but a dermatologist a couple of years ago told me I don't have that, just food sensitivities to tomatoes and chocolate or something (she did no food testing, just popped out the opinion). Rosacea does run in my family, though -- my grandfather had it, my mother and one aunt both have this "rosy glow" across their noses and cheeks, too.

That same dermatologist told me facials don't really do anything for your skin and that she thought of them as "foo-foo." Her word.

But I just got a great coupon deal for a facial and microdermabrasion, and I don't mind a little "foo-foo" now and then. I've only ever had a couple of steam + extraction + moisturizer facials. They were okay. Nothing I felt like I had to go do again. I HAVE had a series of four chemical peels, which worked well on me, but that medical spa closed down and I don't know where the aesthetician who worked on me went. I tried to find her. She was good and I trust her with my skin.

I also IPL laser treatment on my face for sun damage at that same medical spa, and that worked well, too, in that it significantly reduced the amount of apparent sun damage on my face and chest in a blacklight test. My 10-years-younger marathon-running, diving champion cousin was pretty disgusted that I had better skin than she. Ha!

I'm not afraid of microdermabrasion as a procedure, but I'm wondering if it would be detrimental with the spidery capillary thing already going on.

Anyone else dealing with this? Color me vain, but I'm aging well and I want to keep on aging well, you know?

I just put on a moisturizer and a good quality face powder. Covers those suckers right up!

Blueberry, at the moment I'm using Aveeno's Positively Ageless Reconditioning Night Cream day and night (I don't spend a lot of time outdoors unless I'm swimming or riding, in which case I use Aveeno 70 SPF sunblock), but when I finish this container, I'm going to try Olay's Regeneration line. And I use Covergirl's matte powder foundation.

I use "Wild Carrot" brand Rose Body Butter all over. www.wildcarrotherbals.com It's a thick shea butter based goop. I'm an old lady, I'm allowed to use the thick and heavy stuff on my face now. Works great. I don't break out, and those little dry-looking wrinkles just disappear. And it smells good.

My face powder is Lancome "Ageless Mineral." Oh, 'cept I forgot the gratuitous "e".... "Ageless Minerale." Expensive stuff, but a little goes a long way.

I don't think either has any SPF to speak of. I'd rather wear sunhats (I have many) than sunblock on a daily basis.

Wait, isn't "Shredded bloody oozing abraded..." what people used to get from actual dermabrasion with the little sandpaper whirling like thingamajig? For acne scars and such? I thought microdermabrasion was when they shoot little particles of salt (or similar) on your skin with a machine, and is quite gentle.

A google search would probably be a good idea here before you totally forget the idea, Roxy. Also, I'd think they'd do a free consultation first to see if you are a good candidate for the treatment.
