    Mountain Bike Platform Pedals?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I'm researching platform pedals for my mountain bike & would appreciate your input. Here's what I'm looking for:
    • Platform only ~ no clipless
    • I don't do anything hugely technical ~ mostly bumpy, single track, with some relatively short, steep hills
    • Need a "grippy" pedal that won't badly scrape a bare ankle if my foot slips off

Crank Brothers has a platform pedal that looks promising. Is anyone using these? Is there anything better out there?

I use Redline alloy pedals on both of my bikes (black not silver). Relatively cheap, like $10 bucks on Amazon or about $20 in the average LBS. (Ouch. Way to undercut the local guys Amazon.) There are pros/cons to discovering this.

Point being they have a great space for my feet, are rigid, yet comfortable - look bad a$$ on my touring/utility bikes and are sturdy as frick. Believe me I've tested them.

You can get magnesium platform pedals for $60 but unless your beating your bike to heck you might not need to spend that much.

Thanks for the recommendation. You're right. The Rediline black pedals are bad a$$! And, I like the price.

I like the Wellgo MG-1 because they are durable and lightweight for a platform pedal. Paired with 5.10 shoes with super sticky soles it's a great combo.
