Saw one tonight; the guy had built it himself at this studio.
Of course, I know nothing about bamboo bikes. And they are entirely impractical in NYC where thieves abound. Still...it looked so cool.

but definitely look and enjoy!
The owner of my local bike shop (also where my partner works) has a bamboo bike. His son made it for him somewhere on the East Coast, I don't know company though. They are really cool.
I shouldn't have clicked that link.
They have bamboo bike kits. You can build your own bamboo bike no matter where you live.

i know since i saw the link i have been soooo lusting for a bamboo bike. not that i have the extra money or even space in my home for another bike. and i am planning to try and get pregnant in the semi near future which would seem to make getting another bike right now just silly. still i really really want a bamboo bike. i guess if i do get pregnant then that means i have plenty of time to save up for another bike. i won't be leaving baby number two for long enough to go on a ride until he or she is at least 6 months old and my mountain bike will do fine during pregnancy. maybe in 2 years i will be building a bamboo bike!!! i could totally save up enough money in two years for a spiffy bamboo bike kit and work on building it during a babies naps plus my son will be old enough by then he might actually be able to help!

Hello All,
I have been following Team Estrogen forums for a couple of years now, but I have rarely posted so I will not be familiar to any of you, but I could not resist responding to this thread as I just returned home from a weekend spent building a bamboo bike at the studio in Brooklyn.
She is, in my opinion, a thing of beauty and she rides beautifully, as well. I took her (or did she take me?!) on a two hour ride all about NYC this morning and it was sheer joy. It took close to 30 hours over two days to build her, and it was a lot of work, but she was worth it. I've attached two photos for those who are interested in seeing her (I only had ones that included me available at the moment - my husband took them when I got home with the bicycle).

oh wow that is a really pretty bike! thank you for posting terry!
i am so excited now about going to the workshop. and also a little worried about how many hours it will be. i am rarely away from my son for more than 5 hours at a time but he is getting bigger and older and will probably be fine.
so exciting!

Well, that doesn't make it any easier to resist a bamboo bike. Sigh. I need a much bigger bike shed.

I just discovered that people a little more in the center of the US will have a chance to build a bamboo bike, It's in Pittsburgh:

That's still a little far for me, but surely someone can take advantage.
