    Help! Which roof rack?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

    Hey folks,

Looking at new roof racks. I'm looking at Thule racks this time around (I have a Yakima Subaru Factory rack that is worn out and in need of replacement.)

I'm looking at the Thule Domestique which is a fork mount rack, or the Thule Sidearm rack which secures the front wheel of the bike only.

Do any of you have any experience with either of these or can you give me a recommendation on them?

We really like Rocky Mounts fork mount bike attachments. They go on Yakima or Thule rails.

I have the Domestique and have absolutely no complaints. I love it.

I have Yakima Sprocket Rockets on my Suby. I'm a big fan. They are super solid. Rock the bike and you rock the car. They have fork mounts.

Another vote for Rocky Mount. We have 2 Lariats directly mounted to our Subaru factory crossbars (no separate bars or feet needed). It is soooo easy to pop the crossbars off the rails and remove the entire rack as one piece when we don't need to haul bikes and want to improve the car's mileage. 2 people, ~10 minutes, and 4 Torx screws- done.

I lied....they're actually the Noose model.

One note on the Rocky Mounts if you live in a high crime area: at least with our model, if you don't lock the skewer closed when not in use the skewer can be easily removed...by anyone. If you lock the skewer closed when you're not using it the skewer can still be ripped off (albeit not as easily) but it wouldn't do the their any good.
