Multiple medals in Summer & Winter Olympics-only woman?

Well, all over the media last night and today, Clara Hughes who has won 6 Olympic medals, 2 in cycling and 4 in speedskating..is trumpeted as the only woman to have won several medals in both Winter & Summer Olympics.

I didn't know she was 37. At 14 she was smoking, drinking and doing some drugs ..until she saw the Olympics. Didn't get into speedskating until she was 27 yrs.

She seems like such a good likeable person, not a prima donna with sights for Sports Illustrated modelling, etc.

We didn't see her race live at the speedskating new Oval. We were elsewhere and saw several women's and men's speedskating races. Including the medal race for women's 5,000 metre relay. China- 1st (middle group in photo), Canada- 2nd US-3rd (team on right hand in dark suits).

Below is the flower presentation to the winning teams. At this Olympics, the medal performance tends to be the next day in the evening at a Stadium with a live band.

I think Connie Carpenter (now Connie Carpenter-Phinney) may have won medals in speedskating and cycling.

Looks like Connie got an Olympic medal for cycling in 1984.

She competed in 1972 Winter Olympics (she was young) but placed 7th.

This is getting way off topic but still on Olympic sports for this year: so far, Canadian women have pulled in 11.5 medals out of 15 medals in total. (the .5 is shared between a gold medal figure skater and her skating partner). Yet the total proportion of sport funding from our National funding program has been more heavily weighted for men.

    However Olympics not over yet.

You thinking of Beth Heiden who competed at the same time in both sports? I've never heard Carpenter-Phinney's name associated with speedskating, but she could have.
