Notice I said in the family. As I have mentioned, my oldest son is now thoroughly obsessed with riding. Since he now is sick of cleaning the winter muck from the nice Voodoo we handed down to him, and the fact he had to replace the brake pads twice since November, he decided to do some research and get a single speed. So today he went with my DH to Simple Living Cycles in Framingham http://www.slcycle.com/.
I can't believe he found a bike shop we have never heard of. This guy sells bikes for "normal people" and he sells them cheaply. Parts, too. DH didn't tell him about our road bikes, but he did tell him we have Jamis Codas, as he sells Jamis, too. And at about 2/3 of what we paid. DH wisely took the bike home to our house, to give it a thorough going over, since he had read the owner is not a good mechanic; he simply wants to sell bikes at a reasonable price. Good thing; everything was loose, the tape had to be rewound, etc.
I now have a nice Redline with some cool looking bars sitting in my living room. My son paid $315.00 for it. He's coming here Saturday to pick it up.
So, someone who started riding in August now has 3 bikes: the Redline, the Voodoo, and a very nice Serotta Atlanta that was handed down from my other son.
