    Turbotax?

Does anybody use it? I have always sent my tax docs to my parents and they've just had their accountant do mine too, but I'm feeling like it's time for me to start handling it myself. My taxes won't be very complicated, I could probably just do them by hand but I think Turbo Tax (or something like it) would give me a little bit more confidence.

    Rants/raves/issues I should know about?

I love turbo tax! The first two years after I was married we used an accountant to the tune of $225. My accountant gave us good tips on deductions for our work. After that I have used turbo tax every year with ease. I get the basic and after its initial release there are usually updates that will need to be downloaded. You log on and it walks you through everything. At the end it will analyze any possible audit red flags and suggestions. Then you can e-mail it to the IRS and you can get your deduction direct deposited. It is all I need and use, even with two jobs and two houses.

    TurboTax rocks.
I suspect the other brands that do the same are also good.
TurboTax leads you though everything simply, and it remembers your last year's return and uses that info to set up each year and to trouble shoot any issues.

My taxes are fairly simple as well, I use TaxAct.
If I can do it an untrained monkey can do it.

I have been using TurboTax for years. We first used an accountant as we have a farm and rental property, but I realized that I could do it after going over all the forms from the accountant. TT walks you through the whole thing. When you use it the second year, it imports all your information from the year before, name, address, SS # etc. If you have things that need to be used for this year from last, like carryovers, it will import that, too.

I can highly recommend it for ease of use. It asks you all the questions and you have to answer them. It has a checker at the end to see if you missed anything, or if it detects errors. After you file it, you will get an email back saying it was received. You can have the refund if you get one, direct deposited in your bank account. It is really fast, too.

I've used TT for probably close to 18 years. If you file 1040-EZ, you can do it online at the IRS website for free. (I just checked and it's not just for EZ anymore.) TT also has a free site for easy returns, too. (at least it used to) I think it's free as well.

While I know a lot of people love it, TT made a $4000 error on a capital loss for us that required an accountant and an amended return the following year. We have not gone back. The information was entered correctly; it just wasn't processed correctly.
