specialized jett vs. brooks

so these are pretty much the two saddles people have recommended to me the most.

and i'm completely confused on which to try / go with/ start.

i was measured on the specialized thing and measured at 140 so im assuming that means i need 160 min. either could work on my bike [ new! it just got built up. so stoked. its this: click here! [ salsa casseroll with mostly campy centaur ] ]

im just confused as to which to go for. i'm intrigued by the cut out of the jett as it looks like it would be nice, but on the other hand i know a ton of people enamored with their brooks saddles. i know they're COMPLETELY different saddles, but i'd be fine either [ and they're pretty much the same price ] i just dont know which would be better persay.

i generally ride in street clothes [ and sometimes skirts. easiiier. ] and recreationally, but i do have the habit of when i was riding regularly, to ride at least 40 miles a week. i'm trying to get back into riding, and hopefully eventually into just full commuting.

any ideas/ recommendations? sorry this is long winded, i'm working on little sleep.

Do you need a cut-out? (If you're sitting on a hard flat surface and leaning forward with your legs raised so you're sort of in riding position, do your soft parts get squished?)

I need a cut-out, and I'm pretty happy with my Jett. But cut-outs can cause problems for some people.

Also, the Jett is harder than many saddles, but it still has some squishiness. If you want less of that, a Spec' Ruby might be a better comparison to a Brooks... but nothing on a plastic frame is really going to compare with the feel of tensioned leather, either.

If you order direct from Specialized, they have a 30-day return policy. There's a Brooks dealer that a lot of TE'rs deal with (Wallingford?) that has an extended return policy, also.

Does your LBS let you try saddles out?

Wallingford Bike is online, and they will let you try a Brooks for what, 6 months?

Each of us is different. I love my Brooks saddles, that's all i can stand to sit on.
none of us can really tell you which will be best for you.

I'm trying to figure out which Brooks to put on a mountain bike. I hate the saddle that is on it right now. I love my Brooks!

I have a 2nd hand Jett that replaced the original saddle that came on my Fuji bike, a very nice hand-me-down from a more serious rider who bought a new one. I am used to it now and it has worked for me so far, on rides up to 50 miles.

I like the B66/67/68 dimensions. I have the B67 on 2 of my bikes (that's the single rail one with springs) and a B68 (single rail, no springs) on the bike I ride the least, which is a very upright promenade bike. It got the B68 because I really really like springs to be on my commuter and my zoom-zoom so I spend most of my time with a sprung butt.

B66/67/68 are the widest and most T-shaped of the Brooks saddles.

Brooks choice just depends on your sit bone width and the angle of the action of your hip joints. (oh, and whether or not you like springs! )

that saddle was broken in before I bought it and i've owned it for 15 or so years.
it's a b66, kind of heavy...you can get the same shape and comfort with a B68 now only this newer model is not so heavy.

i might just make the brooks jump, we'll seeee. the only people i know that ride the jett, are the store employees, while all my friends swear by brooks.. and i know that i can get a brooks cheaper. so, I'll probably go with the B17s.

i'm tempted by the imperial, but i havent really heard too much about it?

The only problem with the "S" versions of the various saddles is that the nose is "short." If you control your bike with your thighs, you will REALLY miss the regular length nose. The "Short" saddles also have less fore-aft adjustment because the rails are shorter.

i was worried about that too, but my TT is only 50 cm so its already in the short area, and i asked a couple friends about which they rode, and ALL of them ride the S version. and all are much bigger than i am, so i figure i'll probably be okay with it.

I found the B17 to be too narrow and uncomfortable after 50-60 miles.
have you measured your sit bones?

yep! i measure 140, so i'm assuming at b17 will be a-ok.
