Last night, as I was putting my 7 (soon to be 8) year old son to bed he said something very insightful...
I told him that I was going to bed right after I said goodnight to him because I was very tired and he asked me why I was tired and I told him the things I had done that day-got up at 5am, rode my bike, took him and his little brother to school, rode my bike again, did housework, picked them up from school, etc. He then asked me, "how far did you ride today mama?", and I told him "18 miles". He smiled and said, "oh thats not that far...all you have to do is put your head down and keep moving your legs!"
I smiled but was surprised at the same time because I often think that very same thing when I'm riding (sometimes in the zone its like the lower half of my body just has a mind of its own and it goes on autopilot-but I never told anyone how that feels)!
Couple that with the fact that the poor little guy still has training wheels on his bike and maybe you can see why I was pleasantly surprised...
It would be great to find him a nice kid's bike, get him out riding and take him with me, at least on the bike path...he seems to have some of the mindset in place! LOL...maybe a future bike racer? LOL

I miss my kids being little! They are old teenagers now.
