    June 16th RIDES Tuesday

I did a very lovely 24 mile ride this morning. I managed to avoid getting rained on though it was threatening to. The good news is that when it's cloudy I don't worry about sunburn as much. Tomorrow looks like a good day too- two in a row maybe? Last night we had a heavy hailstorm, and it's been thunder storming an awful lot this month.

Lots of road construction in our town this year (replacing drainage/storm/sewr pipes everywhere) so I have had to get used to riding over extremely nasty construction rocks, potholes, and gravel everywhere in town. It's like a lunar landscape, going on since last summer. I am VERY impressed with my 700 x 25 Continental Grand Prix 4 Season tires....they must be made of superman stuff!

Thinking about doing a fundraiser ride in 12 days of 60 miles. Not really in shape for it, but what the heck.

maiden voyage of the contessa speedster....

FIrst off it was about 101 degrees around roll out time. We split into 3 groups.ride leader/his SO, two stronger rider males and myself and another fellow team survivor member. Well this was her first time and she got ahead of me and thus seperated. So i did part of the ride solo.

OVerall the riding went great.... tina didn't properly eat/prepare stuff before heading out....I made it about 10-12 miles

I love my new bike and look forward to taking her out for many more outings.

    horse

I ventured into the hills again yesterday Lots o fun meandering up there and am working on some intervals atm.

I saw a few coolio things that kept me intrigued. One was a controlled burn off & really wanted to stop n watch more of the process but I don't know if the DEC folks would have appreciated that.

I also met a horse & its foal..awwwrr. I didn't have any food for either of them but it was just nice to stop n say hello. The horse seemed to want to eat my arm rather than let me pet it..

Hopefully the weather will be nice next week for a hill ride. We're in for some rain over the next few days & fingers crossed it'll be dry enough next time.
Then again, my fave mtb trail might be ready to ride again after the controlled burn off the DEC did a few weeks ago.

I had my first ride in 2 weeks--the longest I've been off a bike or trainer in a couple of years. I was terribly jet lagged, but I put on my new bibs (I don't know if Inverse cycle wear is availble here, but I love the chamois) and headed out for a short loop. Once out there I felt great, and it turned into a longer ride than I was planning.

It was very hot here but luckily very overcast when I headed out for a short recovery ride on the farm where I work.

Like CC I saw horses but I saw tons of mares and foals! I really missed a lot while I was injured because there were only a handful back in March. I love seeing them in the big fields and try to figure out which foal belongs with which mare as I go by.

I only did 10 miles and I had no legs at all but I expect some ups and downs as I get back in shape.

I am in my 2nd month of being able to work from home one day a week. The weather in the north east has been horrible and I have only been able to take 2 lunch hour rides. Today I thought instead of a lunch hour ride I would get out when my work day ends as I do not have that 1 hour and a half commute I am still ahead of the game.

I drove to the Jones Beach path and rode it twice along with a couple of loops around the park where the path begins. So I had a nice 20 mile ride after work. Perfect timing also since there were clouds all day long and very chilly, for once the weather turned in my favor with the sun coming out at 3:30 and warmed up.

I would never ride this path on the weekend, but today it was great, 1 set of walkers, 2 joggers and a couple of roller bladers along with a few cyclists. I was able to average 15mph. I wish the path was always like this

Now I hope my mgr ok's one more month of working from home for a day a week.
