    Tubes and Tires

I need to pick up some tubes - is there one brand/kind thats better than others? I see there is a Slime brand - self sealing. Do these self-sealing tubes work? Now for tires. How many miles can you expect to get out of a tire? Also, is it possible to put a little wider tire on a rim, 700x26 - using a 700x28?

The only part of the question that I can answer is about the Slime tubes. They do work... but... It can be very messy to inflate them. The green slimy stuff squirts out and can gunk up your pump.

Surg tech, I typically just use the cheapest tubes I can buy and haven't ever had any problems as long as I keep things inflated (pinch flats happen easily when your tire is under inflated). So I've never tried slime, and my criteria for which tube to buy is ... is it $1.50 or $1.99?

So I'm not much help there either. Tires... mileage depends on what you're riding on, etc... You can put a slider wider tire on a rim provided that you have room in the brakes, the fork, and at the chain stay support for the wider tire to spin. So it depends on your bike.

Personally, I just go for cheap tubes and some slightly more durable tires. I've had really good luck with Kenda's road tires as well as Conti gatorskins
