    How did this happen?

Today I went and rode with DH. It was a super easy trail just full of twisty singletrack and was a blast! But we noticed a little issue halfway through the first lap - I lost one of my front brake pads! The trail was so not technical I still did another lap because there was zero downhills, I didn't crash.

Hmmm.... Was it the 25 mph+ headwind on the 3 hour drive there? Shoddy work by my favorite wrench when he put on the new pads a month ago (this was only my second ride)? A freak thing that could only happen to me?

    Rim brakes?

I've had pads work their way loose and start spinning before; luckily I've thus far caught it before loosing the pad. Could be a not quite tight enough install, worn threads, just bad luck, who knows what else?.

That's one of the bolts I do a quick check on before every ride now though!
