    When not to ride..........chest cold

    To disable ads, please log-in.

It has been about six weeks now that I have been sick. I finally feel like the old me. First it was a chest cold and I made the WRONG decision to go out with DH for a long ride on the coast, then another one and voila!!!! I got pneumonia.

Anyway, I never ever felt so sick in my life, five days in bed, no appetite but I definitely learned my lesson.

Since I have been feeling better I have been checking in with some of my cycling friends and they recommended that if the illness is below the neck........DO NOT RIDE!!!!! You put way too much stress on your lungs.

Hope this will help some of you gals out there!!!!

Glad you're feeling better. Having our lungs hate us, and protest most greatly is a lesson one doesn't soon forget.

And when you start riding again, take it easy, no hard fast rides right out of the starting block, ya hear!

This is so annoyingly true...I'm an avid spinner; 5-7 days a week. I got bronchitis in late november and had it all through december - went down to 3 times a week. Just as i started to get over that, i got Dengue Fever in early and almost died.

Of course, i'm used to being active so not being able to do stuff completely frustrates me! i went back to the gym a week after i got over the "serious stuff" - my lungs almost exploded!.
3 weeks later i'm still only spinning twice a week...my lungs only hate me a little now.

I've been thinking of posting about this topic myself. Glad someone else started it. I'm extremely bummed right now. I had a stomach bug right before New Year that went right into a vicious bronchial virus. Finally headed to the doctor after being sick a couple of weeks and found out I had a double ear infection. So I was good and took all of my meds. What bums me is my cough returned terribly this weekend, and now it seems I have another cold.

I kept exercising lightly while sick and was good about not riding outside in the real cold weather. I'm not due to work today until 2 and it's beautiful outside but chilly (28). I so much want to hit the frozen trails, but there's a little voice in my head telling me to take it easy. Aargh.

It seems like I have had a lot more colds this season then last. I am just starting to get over cold #3..I really want to go out for a run or ride but I will hold still until tomorrow. I spent all day yesterday sleeping so I probably should relax. It is just so nice out...sunny and 60. Oh well, there will be plenty of nice days coming.
