    My "new" Katy/loaner/commuter bike

I've picked up several bikes at our local flea market over the past couple of years. I've fixed up and given most away to students. I've also wanted a bike to loan to people to ride the Katy Trail. Well, yesterday, I found this bike. It's a 1998 Giant Option. All Shimano components and 700c wheels. Pretty low end, but perfect for an extra. The stem was loose and turned sideways (an easy fix) and the front wheel needs trued, but that's it. No dents or dings or even scratches. I think maybe someone hit something with the wheel and decided that was it. No more biking. I bet it wasn't even ridden more than 10 miles and then just collected dust. Well here it is with a different seat on it. Oh, wait, I forgot to mention that it was $18.

it looks new!! what an amazing price. It's even a nice color.
Next time you do a fun ride on the katy, let me know, I'm ready to do a long ride on the katy trail. Probably the winter time is a good time- not so crowded.
pretty soon you are going to have a business doing guided katy trail rides there in Belle!
we could do a night ride on zombie road... NOT

The color is pretty neat. It's called red fade and goes from a lighter red to an almost black red at the back. One of the people who rode the Katy with us on Friday had this old old bike with a seat that's honestly the biggest one I've ever seen. It was an old Bridgestone that I think was made for a 9 year old. I had to ride it back because her butt hurt, and mine is kind of sore today for the first time in years. I also felt like I was peddling with my hands on my hips, it was THAT short. She insisted before the ride that she had to have that humongous padded seat. There is no telling them any different is there? She wants to ride again, but she's riding this Giant! She couldn't believe that my lightly padded Specialized seat felt so good on her sore tush.

I hear that they have had trouble with trespassing on zombie road since it was on one of those "haunted" tv shows. Think anyone on TE would bail us out of jail?

I think it would be cool to ride out about 20-25 miles, stop for lunch, and ride back. My limiting factor is time- I ride so slow that I usually run out of time before I run out of miles.
I didn't see any no trespassing signs on zombie road. I read a communicaiton with one of the parks people or someone who had some authority in that area, and they said the no trespassing was after dark, due to a lot of ghost hunters flocking to the area. They said it would be ok during the daylight. I saw a total of eight people on zombie road today, Al Foster was very busy and the little train was even running, despite them telling me last weekend was the last run for it.

That sounds good. I have weekends off. You and Traci can figure out where and when. She works weekends so I'll go when she can.

Trust me, you do NOT ride slow.

What about other TE'ers from St. Louis???? I have a bike you can borrow!

*drool* How sweet a deal is that? I am so jealous, yet happy for your find and from the sounds of it that bike found a great home/owner!
