    Is it Technically a Mixte?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

This morning I got off the bus a stop early to grab some coffee and breakfast burrito. On the way I passed one of the numerous thrift stores on our street and outside was a PINK Giant Cabriolet. I recall seeing it a few times and thinking it belonged to someone.

Anyway, it's a little small, but so cute and needs a loving home. I'm gonna go take a look at it tomorrow. I figure if I can bring it home under $50 and QBP it back to life it might be a fun grocery getter.

I know a Mixte technically has three sets of stays but does that term get applied to a lot of step through road bikes? I found a pic of the same model on craigslist, what are your thoughts?

Oh, almost forgot. I mentioned it today and the guys at work asked what a mixte was! Boo-Yah! I knew something they didn't. Plus one to me for my antiquity knowledge.

In a word, no. It's just a ladies' frame.

not meaning to discourage you from an adoption though

It's a beautiful bike, certainly drool-worthy but no, not a mixte.

Sweet! My first road bike was an 80's Asahi street bike we got off CraigsList for about $50. I loved it, but it had shifter on the top tube. I ran to the lbs and bought my current baby. DH couldn't find "Blue" a home, and in a tender moment he took the antique woman's bike to the airport. He's a mechanic, so he rides the bike from his hangar to the hangar of an airplane needing work, leaves the bike in their hangar and taxis the plane back. Reverse when done! I hate to encourage bringing home another "kid" but she may be calling you.

Great is the day that you learn something new. Now I know that mixtes have three stays. Thanks!

Nice bike, great grocery-getter for sure!

I have no clue what a Mixte is but that is cute. I say $50 isn't much she needs a loving home and it is fun! So call it whatever, I would call it mine though.

And unlike Cunninghamair I encourage adding to your stable if you will ride it. Mine fleet is currently three bikes strong and I ride them all. Each has a function and get used. DH is going to fixed up his old hardtail mountain bike because some races full suspension is overkill. Diversity is good!

SWEET!!!! I used to have a pink Cabriolet! Only, it wasn't a bike. It was a 1980 VW Rabbit convertible (aka: Cabriolet). It was black, but I pained it PINK!!!

Zen I tried to convince my husband to do that but he thought a bird bath was more respectable for the front yard.

Boo, doesn't matter anyway. It's TINY. The guy offered it to me for $20 but it's on 24" wheels. The top tube is a whopping 16" from my close enough to level measuring. I do know a little girl who might like it though, so maybe I will bring it home.
