Myra -rebuild B.C. Kettle Valley Rail Trail

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I just heard 2 wks. ago that the burnt out section for the Myra Canyon rail portion in the Kettle Valley bike rail trail has been rebuilt and will open/is open now cyclists? Please confirm.

We will be there during the weekend June 14th-- there is a provincial cycling advocacy meeting there. I won't be attending the meeting (it's his thing, he's heading it up) but I will be cycling.

Probably early morning..before the heat turns on later in the day in Kelowna

I know some of the trestles were rebuilt last summer but not sure all of them have been. Maybe do a google search for it?

Edit: Yes, they are all done!

Hey great, judging from the restoration photos, I'm impresssed that they preserved the wooden rail trestle suppports. There was debate if concrete would be used..which would be a different effect.

Maybe concrete was used elsewhere? I've only cycled sections in the Kettle Valley...in your area...1 yr. after the forest fire. At that time, we were on a trail..that led to the start of the Myra Canyon section where we were stopped by signage. So we spent time gazing at ...the burnt out forest..

That's great news. I rode the Myra Canyon section twice in the late 90's. Once as a day trip and once when we did the KVR from Osoyoos to McCulloch station.

It's terrible to say, but when the fires were first being reported in the Kelowna area, I was more upset by the loss of the trestels than the lost homes.

Karma came back to bite me in the butt a few years later, when I spent over two weeks on evacuation alert as fires raged around Lillooet.

I was at a cycling advocacy meeting last June in kelowna where we watched the photo slide show to music of the rebuilding of the Myra Canyon Trestle bike trail segment of the Kettle Valley Trail. This slide show was shown before the opening event the following weekend or so.

It was quite inspiring to watch the slide show. There was a really dedicated local group of people who made this happen.

I would be surprised we will find time to ride part the the Myra Canyon Trestle..we will be in Kelowna area, this time in Westlake area again over this Thanksgiving weekend in Oct.
