    All my bike woes

Hee. Thought I'd just make one post to you lovely ladies who will understand my dilemmas.

I think I'm racing for the first time tomorrow. I haven't the FOGGIEST if I'm anywhere near good enough to hang, it's a combined women's field and I hear the upper category women are FAST. The forecast has just changed to show it will be showering for the few hours leading up to the race, joy, I'm scared of 90 degree turns on wet roads! DH and I plan to discuss tonight if I'm going for it.

I have some pressure on though. I want to prove him right that I'm fast; also he tells me once I get some decent results his team can pick me up! Eep! I have such butterflies already!

My other dilemma is bike-related. I love Spartacus. He's a really nice steel bike and he's treated me fabulously for the past 5-6 years. But he's a bit heavy. I've started putting my feelers out and testing the water with DH. He seems to be in favor of buying me a bike -- even put in a bid on a Cannondale frame for me! (He didn't win the auction.) Well, last night one of DH's ride partners offered us a titanium frame in my size! He's asking about twice what DH bid on the C'dale, but it sounds SWEET. I'm in major bike lust right now and I haven't even seen it yet. Sigh.

So. Bike thoughts are consuming me. What else is new?

first of all, good luck in the race if you do it! I can certainly understand your nerves over racing in wet conditions... you said you want to prove your DH right that you're fast? let me guess, he's faster and teases you about it right? been there... LOL... my ex did once get completely SCHOOLED by a woman who blew by us in shorts, a t-shirt and flipflops... he tried to catch her and couldn't... she would slow down a little and look back and he'd chase and she'd take off... it was freakin hysterical! we never found out who she was but obviously raced somewhere... LOL

what kind of ti bike are you looking at? I ride a ti bike and love it! with wheels, cages, seat bag and all it weighs in at 17lbs... I have a VERY small seat bag tho so that really adds hardly any weight... just big enough for 2 tubes and tools...

ahhhh... bike lust... is there aything more powerful???
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".

Mmm, my sweetie is a Cat 2 racer, so yeah, he's faster than me by a LOT. The issue is in fact that he is NOT teasing me anymore -- he's bragging me up! I don't believe him one bit that I'd be competitive, but I feel like I need to do him proud, yannow?

I didn't catch the brand, but I thought I heard him tell my hubby it's "not quite a Litespeed" and something about it being from "his hometown of Seattle"? I did hear him say it's got a Kestrel fork, Cane Creek headset, and DuraAce bottom bracket. I'm getting all excited again, LOL!

Not sure I'd be much help...........

If you decide to ride the race...Major good luck and let us know how it goes. My only thought would be, don't do it for him but for yourself but then I've been divorced twice so obviously I don't know squat about hubbys! LOLOL
As for the bike: since I seem to be collecting bikes now faster than I can ride em - another bike doesn't even raise an eyebrow with me!........I'd say go for it, but then I say that for just about Anything! Heck ya only live once nah?
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"
