    Team Luna California

I posted a thread in general discussion about Team Luna Chix - the organization raises money (all proceeds) for the breast cancer fund and supports women in cycling.
    http://www.lunabar.com/community/lun...?documentid=49

right now the team in San Francisco does Mtn. biking but no road cycling. I'm interested in getting a road cycling team together. There are several of us in the Bay area.

Here's the criteria for forming a team:

6– 8 women per team, contributing to our theme of “Amazing Women doing Amazing Things”

Must be willing to take over the Team LUNA Chix name, sorry no opportunity for co-branding at this time

To not bring aboard sponsors that may conflict with Team LUNA Chix sponsors (please email inorman@clifbar.com for that list).

To have an understanding of your community and awareness of what is happening in your city and your sport

Host 3-5 activities (group run, weekly ride, clinic, etc.) per month during the busy season of May through October

Support/Show up as a team in 2-3 select events (May – Oct)

Race, attend, volunteer or cheer on participants

Set up team tent at community event (if opportunity presents itself)

Event Kit available upon time efficient request (kit includes tent, banners, table contents, samples and more)

As a team, host one LUNAFEST (www.lunabar.com/lunafest) fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Fund

Efforts may be collaborated if there is an existing LUNAFEST scheduled in your city

Information provided to assist in this process of hosting a LUNAFEST

Host 2-4 clinics (may outsource your education) within the season

Any/All proceeds of money raised in program will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund (www.breastcancerfund.org)

$50 fee (actual cost of team kit rages from $150 - $300) for member to receive team kit (mandatory purchase in being part of the team)

what your $50 fee gets you

Some (but not all) items include: (the triathlon teams probably get all this stuff - the road cycling team would probably just get the cycling stuff)

    Cycling Jersey
    Cycling shorts
    Running shorts
    Running shirt
    Running jacket
    t-shirt
    socks
    fleece
    running hat
    chap stick
    water bottles

    Pro Form purchases

    Bike
    Helmets
    Running shoes
    Wet suites
    Cycling shoes

The organizer at Luna had this to say:

Retail these items would be $300-$600. This is probably the only year we’ll be able to offer a team kit at such a crazy price. If your sport kit doesn’t offer something you would like (if you’re on a running team, but would like a cycling jersey for personal use) you will have opp to purchase at cost price.

Hey CindySue... is there a website with all this fine info PLUS where existing teams are currently located?

I would consider joining up but a one-woman show this is not... I did, however , just renew my ice-age old racing license.
    no regrets!

Nice avatar Cindy. Is that your commentary on a particular climb?

hmm, well my toughest climb to date has been mt. Diablo (that last 50+ meters would definitely count as avatar worthy!). Pig Farm hill is short and sweet and still kicks my butt. I missed out on Metcalf (see my tierra bella post).

    Any suggestions?
    Cheers!

I haven't done Pig Farm or Metcalf. I think the hardest climb I've done is Patterson Pass from the Tracy side to Livermore. The wind is just so vicious through there. At one point I was doing 3.5 miles an hour. I like riding Diablo - even the last little bit. The only I like about Patterson is being done with it.

I've got my team. It's limited to eight and I have seven confirmed and one thinking about it. No girls from TE; they are all from Cal Berkeley.

If this team really happens, I'll let ya all know what we're up to.
    Cheers!

Hmmmm, I'll have to check it out. I think we did a flat section of Patterson Pass on the Cinderella ride.
    Cheers!

Thanks for inviting us to join in, Cindy! The gear is totally tempting, but I can't imagine I'd have the time to do all the stuff that they are asking... which is not unreasonable... I'm just booked a lot. Let us know how it goes!!!

yeah, my only saving grace is I love to cycle and already participate in a lot of events and rides every month. Otherwise, I do tend to overextend myself.......
