Question TT event in Peoria OR

Has anyone done this event and if so what did you think of it?

I have a friend that wants to do this as her first bike race. She's done a tri and needs some events to help motivate her to get better on the bike. I may consider doing it too. So any information would be appreciated.

I rode this last year, but can't make it this year. It is well run, lots and lots of racers attend (in the hundreds). Mostly flat course (if it's the same as last year) with only one or two ups and downs, and they aren't very significant. Later in the day, could have a headwind one way or the other. Had a tailwind out and headwind back last year. A time trial like this would make for a good first bike race. You're on the course with others, but not in the midst of huge groups, usually only one at a time as you pass them or they pass you.

Just remember, it is preregistration only, no day of registration.
Needs to be done and received by Friday Aug 1st (this Friday).

If you and your friend go, let us know how you did.
    Oh, and have fun.
And stick around for the awards, that can be fun too.

I have not done this particular event, but all of the OBRA events I have been to have been very well run. (did I mention that the husband of one of my team mates is the OBRA executive director ) If she (or you) wants to be in contention for a medal she will have to buy a $20 annual license in addition to the entry fee. If she (or you) doesn't care it will only cost you $5 extra for a single day license.

I will tell you as triathletes you may stand a good chance of medaling, especially if you register as a 4... you will both be classified as either cat 4's (since you haven't road raced you can't be classified higher, even though from triathlons you are strong) or if you are old enough and you can choose masters, though it does appear to be open master's categories, so you could be competing against women of any category who are in that age bracket.

Thanks for the info. I have decided to register but I'm doing it on a one day license so I won't be eligible for a medal. That's fine, I've decided to do a long ride the day before with a friend from Eugene and I have a feeling I will be tired. So this is just a training race.
