    Replacing cleats q

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Can you just replace cleats instead of buying a whole new set of pedals/cleats?

I realized why my left food keeps popping out of my pedal, b/c the latchy part of the cleat (Look style) is only half there, the other half must have snapped off from walking on it or something.

I got the pedals a few years ago...do the new cleats still fit the older pedals??

    Thanks!

Sure can! If you're not sure what kind of cleats you need, take your shoes to the LBS with you, and they'll hook you up Older-style cleats are generally still available.

Yep - you'll go through many sets of cleats in the time it takes you to wear out a set of pedals. Most manufacturers are pretty good about keeping old ones around.

Absolutely - look cleats are a disposable item. Sure you can still get them.
I go through a pair per year. I have the older look pedals (maybe 2003, 2004 model) - pre-Keo.

Small hint. Before removing your cleats, assuming you are comfortable with the placement, draw an outline around them on the sole of your shoe. Makes it easier to replicate that comfort.

Southern Belle is right - cleat placement is just as important for preventing injury and increasing comfort as bike fit is. Make sure that your cleat placement allows the ball of your foot to line up with the axle of your pedal. (If only I'd realized this before the organized metric century earlier this year I could have avoided a week of sore knees!!)
