    Gluten / allergen free fuel?

Is anyone here on a gluten free diet? I'm off of gluten, soy, and egg. I know luna bars are safe, but they are so dense that even when I'm not working out, I can only have a few bites. (Yeah, I have digestive issues beyond just avoiding certain foods.)

What do you guys do? I see those clif shot blocks are safe for the most part, although probably not the most wonderful in terms of whole food nutrition. What's the replacement for a pb&j sandwich? (So far all the GF bread I've seen is not something I'd want to eat.)

there are a whole bunch of us doing the no-gluten dance here on TE.

    There's even a giant thread: http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showt...ghlight=celiac

    and another not-so-giant thread: http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showt...ghlight=celiac

and a few others here and there.

Watch out for the Luna bars, they have oats which gets enough gluten going that they can set you off.

Love my Clif Bloks. (and Cravings Place cookies... which travel well!) Dried fruit, fresh fruit, nuts.

I avoid gluten free bread for the most part. It's just icky to me. Rice crackers and rice cakes, corn tortillas, lots of options besides bread. I don't generally take them on the bike, though. I bring the denser stuff (cliff bloks, dried fruit, nuts, bananas).

Thanks for the links! I should have searched first before posting =/

Arrgh ... I meant *LARA* bar, not luna bar. Sorry. Lara bars don't have gluten. I don't do oat; I haven't been GF enough to play around with what I can get away with.

    Yup
There's a new one that I like, too: Weil by Nature's Path. Made with fruit and nuts. My favourite snacks are Riceworks rice chips and Snack peas - baked peas and they have protein and fibre (and taste like they are all bad). I've started making Bob's red mill Cornbread (yummy) using powdered coconut milk instead of soy or rice milk, and yes, I eat *very* little gluten free bread. It's yucky. And the best I have found has a little bit of milk in it, so it's still not perfect for me.

I agree on the cliff shot blocks, and the cliff shots are good, too, with brown rice syrup as the main sugar source. Sharkies look like they are okay, too.

Just try stuff on rides when it's not quite as important so that when you race or do an event you know what works best for you.

    Hugs and butterflies,

A GF friend gave me these two blogs as great resources, they might help: http://www.glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/ and http://glutenfreegirl.blogspot.com/

If you are in the Portland area, I can find out which coffee shop she's selling her GF breads at - they sound devine! She makes: Banana Walnut, Banana Cardamom (w/ walnuts), Banana Coconut Pecan, Zucchini Walnut, Spiced Carrot (this is kind of like carrot cake with raisins and pecans), and Pumpkin Date Walnut. I'm ordering a loaf for my mother in law for mother's day, and will be trying the Banana Cardamom as soon as I can.

Lara Bars are Heavy - I'm not GF, rather Non-Peanut, so I tried them last summer and couldn't maintain it. I've recently found Mrs. May's Trio Bars (3 nuts, 3 seeds, 3 fruit) and Love them. (I think they are gf friendly, and available at Costco) Might be a partial option for you; I usually carry these and CarbBoom because Gu give me a stomach ache. Many friends swear by Sharkies (vegan - dunno about GF) and I find them easier to chew & swallow than Clif Shot Blocks.

My favorite Trio Bar is the Cranberry - 12g Fat, 14g Carb, 5g Protein
Ingredients: Cashew, Almonds, Pistachios, Cranberries, Sesame Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Dates, Raisins, Rice Malt, Natural Flavors, Evaporated Cane Juice and Sea Salt.

You might want to check out YouBar also - have complete control over the ingredients. http://www.youbars.com/
