    Tire Question

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I need to put slicks on my MTB for Tri trainging/racing until I can pickout /afford a road bike.

My tires say 26 x 2.00 on the side.

    will these slicks fit?

The chart seems to indicate yes, but I'm afraid that the are too narrow and would cause rim issues/flats more often.

Is there a better option? I don't see any smoothMTB tires that say 2.00

    Thanks for helping the newB!

Yes, they ought to fit your rims fine. Get some narrower tubes (26x1.25 or thereabouts) with high pressure presta valves. then make sure your pump accommodates presta valves; otherwise you'll need a new pump.

2" wide mtb tires are really wide. You'll be much better off with the narrower ones that you show.

If you keep your tires properly inflated (which means pumping them up once a week) and successfully avoid broken glass and the like, you will have no problems with those tires.

And you'll see an immediate difference in speed!
