My father was transferred to a hospital in Livingston, TN yesterday and underwent surgery today. The waiting was the worse part but finally the surgeon came in to deliver his findings. My father had a hernia repaired a couple of years ago and at that time the surgeon placed a piece of mesh over the muscle tear - normal procedure we were told. It seems that mesh adhered to his intestines and strangled them causing the blockage. The mesh was removed, a section of his bowels was removed due to the damage and his intestines were resected. He is now on a morphine pump and is resting somewhat comfortably. I think the next few days are going to be rough but he is a tough old bird and I feel strongly he will pull through this. I plan on staying here until Saturday when my two sisters will drive in to spend the weekend with my parents. Hopefully my dad will be home by the first part of next week.
Thanks again for all your kind words, positive thoughts and prayers. Please continue to keep my parents in your prayers for I know my dad still has some hurdles to face in the coming days.

What great news it wasn't cancer. Our elders can recover remarkably well sometimes....I'm sure he'll do fine.
Great News! It's kinda strange saying this, but my dad had an old hernia repaired while he had cancer. He felt much better after they fixed it. I just hate that the cancer couldn't be fixed. I am very pleased that's all your dad had and not something worse. Treasure him all you can. Many healing thoughts being sent your way. Jenn
Yay!!!
Interestingly, I know someone who has had multiple surgeries for the same problem. I wish they could find a better way to fix things, that didn't break things later....![]()

Marcie, that's great news! It's not nice that he's had to suffer this kind of pain and trauma, but this "injury" will be much easier to heal from than an illness.
Sending loads of happy, healing, calming, butterflies and gentle hugs,
