Sorry to hear it! I KNOW how you feel!
I don't know much about shin splints, but I believe rest is the best cure. That and not running on hard surfaces like pavement.

F*%?!çK!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so mad at myself. I caught a shin splint. I'm pretty sure it's from the track work and then going 4 times in one week. I was so happy with myself for being able to carry that.
Why oh why........ is my base endurance so far ahead of my legs?
(......help?)

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside thoroughly used-up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: WOW WHAT A RIDE!!!!"
OY!
This weeks Ironman talk podcast has a doc on talking about them.. May be worth a listen. I can't remember much of what he said. I only had half an ear on as I was working...
go to ironmantalk.com and tak a listen...
Soooo...
the uber-triathlete said last night before swim practice, that it's more likely an overused muscle (the anterior shin one) than the periosteum. I used diclofenac (NSAID) cream 4-5 times Saturday/Sunday, and since Sunday night I have been pain-free.
Maybe I got off lucky?
