Trip to the emergency department day before race day

Well... I'm out of my first KEY race this year.

I woke up this morning with a bloodshot eye, by 8am it was also secreting mucus. By 9am I couldn't lean foward without the pressure becoming so great that I needed a panadol. Luckily by then I was in the emergency department of the Mater Hospital because I couldn't see either.

I've got an eye infection. And I think it's spreading to my right eye because as I type this the text is going fuzzy just like my left eye did to me this morning.

Since I can't see and can't afford to buy a Tandem and get someone else to pilot in the next 14hours: I'm officially out.

I'm sooo bummed out. What's worse is BF is in Melbourne so I'm home alone and miserable about not being able to race... Let alone ride my bike at the moment!

Sorry... I think I've vented. I'm just bummed out because I was so PUMPED for this race. I was readier than I've ever been in my very short triathlon life!!! And now I'll be at home... Watching SUNRISE instead... That's if the infection doesn't spread to the other eye that is. I am SOOOOO bummed out now.

Next race is in six weeks.

I am so sorry. I know how frustrated you must be, to work so hard to have it come down to not racing.

I know it sounds easier than it is but relax. Concentrate on getting better so you can race in 6 weeks. This one is out...ugh....but you've got another one coming up. Take this chance to be good to yourself and take it easy.

I'm not saying I wouldn't be as upset, I would

    I am sorry though {{{{light_sabe_r}}}

    That stinks

I am really sorry. Not much else I can say. I would be very bummed. I felt like I held my breath before every race last seaon hoping I would not get sick or hurt.

    I really feel for you!

    Oh man, that blows!
I'm sorry about your eye, but glad they can heal the infection. To me, nothing is scarier than messing with eyes (hence why I won't have lasik vision correction). Take care of that eye- seeing is pretty important in triathlon.
I know you're disappointed, and BF being away just doesn't help matters. When will he be back?
Six weeks is a long time, but I hope that it passes quickly for you.
    Sorry, light_sabe_r

Sorry to hear about your eye infection. I would be upset too. Rest will speed up the healing process so take care of yourself and get well soon.

That is very disappointing. It's hard to train for a race and get all excited for it... and then you have to cancel it... so depressing.

Rest and relax... get better and now you'll be just that much better in 6 weeks!

Oh, I'm so sorry about your eye! Take good care of it, rest, eat something good and let your body do the work it needs to fight off the infection.

try to focus (the uninfected eye ) on the next race!

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I'm actually able to read them today! I flicked the computer on to try and read them when I was bummed out yesterday but couldn't keep my eyes focused so I gave up.

Spent most of the day yesterday as a Rockstar. Sunnies on all day, inside, outside, in the dark. I looked and felt like I'd come off second best againt mike Tyson.

This morning I feel great! ^_^ Sure, both my eyes are bloodshot but I'm not weeping mucas, I'm not teary and most importantly I can see as I do normally. Fingers crossed I can go riding tomorrow (I've got to wait a bit longer before I go swimming as the chlorine in the water may effect the antibiotic cream I'm using)

Once again thanks for the well wishes. I'm trying to keep focused on the next tri but for now it's "recovery" mode.

BF comes back today too! YAY!
