    Another cyclist killed

Christchurch City Councillor and world class paralympian Graham Condon was killed on a ride this morning

    http://http://nz.news.yahoo.com/070908/2/1lm9.html

I'm actually surprised how strongly I am feeling about this - I only met Graham properly once (my BF is a journalist who covers politics and I met Graham at the pub) but he was an advocate for sporting facilities for all the people of Christchurch.

Where he was riding is my most common riding route. I had riden along Lower Styx Rd (although not up as far as Brooklands) about an hour earlier

Oh, Lord, I am feeling so overwhelmed by the number of cyclists killed.

I loved Chch, we watched a bike race near there.

Oh, that's so very sad! I'm sorry for your city's loss. Terribly tragic.

Terribly tragic news. These car/bike accidents really is all senseless and could be avoided if people travel at designated speed and paying attention. "didn't make the turn.." Sounds like the car was going too fast or not paying attention.

my sympathy to those in Christchurch and to his family.

    My deepest sympathies.

It's not a good day for cyclists. I just got an email from a list I'm on about another accident. A cyclist was struck while turning across the southbound lane in front of a southbound vehicle. He was transported to the hospital and is now being treated for a concussion and broken leg.

This stuff scares me to death.

Not a good week for cyclists either. Two cyclists were killed near Mobile, AL on Monday by a 19-year-old, who also hit and killed a cyclist two years ago. At least he's being prosecuted this time--for murder--as he should be. Here's the rub: his family bailed him out of jail, so if you live near Mobile, be careful out there--no kidding.

Kiwi... those of us in the North Island are stunned by this too... some Ramblers knew him so our thoughts are with all those who knew/met/admired/loved him.

Its not surprising this hit you hard - not only did you know where he rode well, you had just been there.

Not the best weekend on Chch roads.
