As some of you know, I got lucky and happened upon a lost XO-1 frame. It's seen some of life and needs some love.
It will need a paint job or powder coating...
I can't decide if I want to bring it back to it's construction pumpkin (or as close as I can).. or if I wanna just paint it something else.
I'm thinking if I paint it something else, then maybe a metallic burnt orange to hint at it's original color or just go way off to a nice deep burgundy or just glossy black. And maybe highlight the lugs and the fork crown with something else .. like chrome or something.
I've been looking at some cool rebuilds bike and man.. some are sweet. So maybe you folks have some suggestions that I haven't thought of....

IF I go orig.. then all one color .. I think.
If I don't.. then I might just chrome up the fork crown. I don't think I'd chrome up the whole fork. Too much bling for me.

But I'm all about the orange! You'll get as many opinions as there are people. Just do something you like.
Although, just a thought, if you ever plan on resale, go with the original.
Hey Trek. I like BLUE.. but for some reason it just doesn't excite me for a bike color. As I said I have it for my car color.. but then it's not really blue, it's "Starlight Mica") See below though my little "bean" isn't nearly so pampered or so clean. There were only 3000 made of this car.

than anything else.
How are you going to paint it? (pay someone or...)
I called a local shop about having a bike painted and i almost CHOKED
on the price!
If you are going to totally strip it down and repaint, would a car body shop do?
I like the original orange, but back then my husband was sponsored by a shop that sold Bridgestones during the time that your bike was made. (Robinson Wheelworks in San Leandro, CA) I own an RB1 still . Hubby had a MB-0 - these were super light racing hardtail (actually I don't think they came with front shocks even as I remember, but I could be remembering this wrong). These bikes had very retro colors even back then, like the orange. Mark's bike was off-white (cream) color with I think they were brown decals. Very plain jane, retro looking. He still has this bike, but it is now a single speed. It had to be repaired once. Cracked chain stay. These were very light and touted to only be one year race bikes. The only shame is that the bike is now blue. Cause after he got the bike, he was sponsored by another bike shop in the bay area and they wanted you to either ride something they sold or paint your bike so no one knew you weren't riding something they sold.

I'm definitely stripping it down. The question is whether I powder coat it or paint it and of course, what color.
Chris @ Robinson Wheelworks says that powder coating can get close to the color but probably not as close as taking it to a paint shop.
He also says that it kinda depends on what you want to do with the bike. If it's purely utilitarian then maybe powder coat since it's more durable. If you want a show bike or a Sunday coffee house bike (maybe that's a show-off bike) then go paint.
Way too many choices but I'm having fun!
FYI, Mimi.. Chris said for powder coating it'd be about $170 whereas paint will be about $450 or so. What was your quote? I'm also looking at possible other vendors for the paint.
the $450 figure is closer to what i heard for 1 color. but (for me) they also charge for taking the bike apart and putting it back together.

Interesting. So many folks like the original orange. I didn't think orange was that popular a color.
