    Hi All
    need some tips on
    fund raising
upping my time in the saddle

    training for JOGLE
for those not in UK thats John O' Groats to Lands End
between 850 - 1200 miles depending on route chosen!!!
    Oh my god

there are 3 of us (cycling together to train at mo)
all for different charities and all funding our own trip (petrol, food, camping and the occaisional b+b )
we do about 11 -13 mph per trip but need to get better as we will be doing 80 miles per day over two weeks but with one or two rest days.

    any advice is great

    thanks in advance

    Wow - what a challenge!

    Hi there Scarlet

Another fellow Brit here. And I thought I was mad to do a charity cycle in India this December - 390 kms over 5 days!

When is the ride you are doing? There is a site called justgiving.com which has a lot of hints for fund raising in general - that might help a bit.

Good Luck with it and let me know if you come across any great training tips.

    Wink Hi Kristine

Hi and thanks for the reply
sometimes its just a reply that keeps one going!!!
I have also done an organised charity cycle about 2 years ago and Fern Britton "tagged along"!!! ha ha the TV made out like she was the only one on it ..............but hey ho she is a lovely and genuine person.
It ws in Egypt so yours will be similar as ours was 5 days ...not long enuf really after all the training i did. I really wanted to keep the bike they lent me to explore........... I raised about £2800 but it was dead hard to collect and sort .and i did a lot of it thru "just giving" to make it easier,
they take a fee you know from you and a fee from the charity too !!! which is about the same as the gift aid most people give you.
well Kristine good luck with your cycle and if you want to join us even for part of the ride ........... we set off last week July (Scotland) and finish first week August 2008
cheers againf for the post its encouraging

    Respect!

Set up a page on www.justgiving.com - that way anyone can contribute to your cause. I'd certainly contribute, and UK residents can tick the tax relief box so your chosen cause can claim back more £ (can't remember if it's 17% or 28% but it's quite a lot).

    hiya Scarlet
Respect! That's quite an undertaking. BTW I posted a reply to this thread already but it disappeared, apologies if it appears twice.

Haven't done such a ride myself, but I do know someone that has. To get everything right, he'd ride 50-100 miles out to a campground with all the necesary, then return the next day. A few weekends like that and he was extremely fit and also knew just what to take.

Anyone who would like to donate .. Link Here

Hi Christopher thanks for the tips and for offering to sponsor me,
I did "Just giving" when I did the Egypt thing but the organised charity runs still use a lot of the sponsor money for the trip so I am funding this myself and my time off work is my Annual Leave too!!
I have own link directly to British Heart Foundation to here it is and thanks for your support in both ways

    regards
    Sandra
