So how do ya measure 'em?

Ok....I am not an idiot....but how are they getting the measurements for the inseam of the shorts. If I measure my shorts inseam from the crotch seam, it measures approx 8 7/8 inches. However, I tried a pair of shorts on (same manufacturer, Pearl Izumi) which claimed to have a 6" inseam and they appeared to be the same length.
    Am I missing something?

    Thanks in advance,
    Karen

hmmm, that is rather perplexing. i wonder if you could try measuring from the seam where the outer edge of the chamois meets the leg? (I assume by "crotch seam you mean a central seam that bisects the shorts... if that makes sense).

Yeah, it makes sense, but pads are different sizes. But perhaps that is what they are doing. What makes it even harder is that the shorts I purchased were 2006 "models" and now the 2007's are out and they don't make that particular short anymore so I can't see what they call out on the inseam measurement. If I knew that, then at least I could measure up from the leg band and see how far it went up the leg towards the pad and know where they are starting the measurement from. Does that make sense?

I've also seen where the inseam measurement only applies to the size Medium...so if your shorts are bigger or smaller, the inseam might change, too.

You might ask Susan at TE to measure a few pair and report.

    I got an answer.

I emailed TE regarding the measurement problems I was having. They were very nice and responded very quickly.

I was told that the measurements are done on a medium size pair of shorts. And they are measured from the center seam, unstretched. She also told me if you purchase a short that is larger than a medium, chances are, because it is a larger size it will be 1 to 2 inches longer than the posted measurement.

So the mystery is solved. Thanks for everyone's help.

BTW - if I had read your thread first I guess I wouldn't have had to type the explaination that I had gotten.
