    Unhappy numbness in right hand/arm

I experienced a strange problem today and was wondering if anyone else has ever encountered. I woke up with numbness in my right hand. It felt like your leg feels when it "falls asleep" except, my hand/arm never "woke up" today. I have been told that I have pretty low blood pressure and I faint VERY easily . . wondering if it's all related? Lots of "stuff" to do right now with kids getting near the end of the school year and training for a Century on 6/3 (my first). Can we say "stress?" People have mentioned diabetes and hypoglycemia to me but no family history of either. Any ideas are welcome! Hoping I wake up tomorrow with full feeling in my hand! It's rather anoying!! Was still able to ride 18 m. with DH this evening despite the numbness. HELP !!:

When was the car accident that hurt your neck?

If numbness persists for more than an hour or two, please call the Doc. Don't wait an entire day! EEEK!

I've had a similar problem and it was associated with disc compression in my neck. No symptoms in my neck itself, but nerves were compressed between the discs which caused pain, tingling, and numbness down the inside of the left arm, under the armpit, and even into my fingers (mainly thumb and pointer). I can definitely relate to the "asleep" feeling! I'm just completing about 3 months of physical therapy and am almost back to "normal." I've had to modify my workstation at work and keep up with home exercises and really be careful not to crane my neck on the bike. Had I not gone to the p/t I never would have guessed that this was related to nerves in my neck (cervical spine). I thought I had pulled something in my shoulder when lifting my bike overhead. Anyway, I'm not saying this is what is going on with you, but I am saying that it's best not to guess at what it is and get in to see a specialist who can diagnose you correctly. The sooner you get a correct diagnosis, the sooner you can start taking steps to remedy the situation. I doubt you want it to get worse than it is!

I had a similar problem in February after an urban winter event rides with lots of bumps. I had complete numbness plus acute pain from the right hand to the elbow, and woke up with it in the wee hours of the morning. I got into see the doctor right away and it was diagnosed as either nerve inflammation in the elbow or the hand, and it didn't matter which, because the treatment was the same. I was prescribed a super Aleve, which is an anti-inflammatory designed for arthritis, but effective for these types of inflammation. Basically it was the dosage of an over-the-counter Aleve times four but only once a day. I was given 5 pills, but after the second pill the symptoms were gone. Not only that, a sciatica problem that had been plaguing me on and off since last August went away with the super Aleve and it hasn't returned.

Anyway, you need to see the doctor on stuff like this. Oh yeah, first thing they will ask you is if you are having chest pains or have a history of heart disease.

Thanks for the input gals! Do you believe that it went away after about 12 hours ??? I had it for a day and went to sleep with it but woke up and it was gone. Maybe a shoulder problem or a pinched nerve although I felt no pain/discomfort anywhere else ??? Anyway, I did made the doctor's apt. and I'm going next Thurday. I plan to get some tests done to rule everything out. Thanks again for the imput-you gals are the best!!
