    Another New Girl...

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I am new to this forum along with being new to road riding. The only bike I had ever owned in my life was a mountain bike until January when I bought my first road bike !
I wasn't really sure I would like it and mostly I just wanted a bike to ride around town, to work and to get groceries, etc...
Well, my partner talked me into getting a road bike so we could do some longer day rides instead of a town cruiser bike. I didn't want to spend too much money, so I bought a used Trek 1000 for $325. It was hardly used at all. The thing is that it is bright orange and blue and all decked out with extra components that I know nothing about. It makes me look like I know what I am doing and attracts all kinds of attention.
It took a while for me and the orange bike to become friends. We had some toe clips issues. My driveway is steep and one of the first mornings I only got one foot clipped in and got dragged down the driveway!
For whatever reason, I stuck with it. I have taken the bike to work every day since the day I bought it. I do some longer rides on the weekends and this weekend I did my first tour. The Tulip Pedal in LaConner, WA. The 40+mile ride.
I'm pretty comfortable on the bike now. I spend most of my time riding outside of Port Townsend, WA and Victoria, BC (my partner lives there).
I'll be doing the Rhody Tour and the Fort2Fort both out of Port Townsend and hopefully some others this summer as well.

Ooooh, Port Townsend and Victoria are two of my favoritest places!

My husband and I did a bike tour a couple of summers ago starting from PT, over to Port Angeles, ferried to Victoria and stayed there a few days, then over to the San Juan Islands for a few more days, then on to Anacortes and biked down thru Fidalgo and Whitbey Islands, then took the ferry back to PT.

    Gotta do that again sometime...

    Anyhoo, welcome Nicole!

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I posted a photo of me and my bike, but it is not showing up when I post. I will have to look more closely.
I am looking forward to the Rhody ride even though I have seen most of the areas where the ride goes as I am fortunate to have direct access to them. The website is: http://www.ptguide.com/rhodytour/

    Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks for the welcome Jenn and JoBob.
I have been thinking about hopping on the Whidbey Island Ferry and trying to make my way by bike to Victoria and then home again. I'm not sure if it is possible in a weekend. I'll need to check the schedule.

Nicole, when you post a reply, go down to the bottom of the window, past "submit reply" and "preview post", pass miscellaneous options.
    see the button "manage attachments"

that's the one you have to hit to get a picture to show up in a thread.

what kind of bike do you have? It's really pretty (in that little tiny picture that i can hardly see)

I wish I could do the Rhody ride, but i will be occupied as the sag vehicle driver for my husband that weekend, unfortunately

Bicycling magazine has really nice things to say about the Trek 1000...congrats!

And, it is nice to see a fellow Olympic Peninsula cyclist here! I'm in PA.

You might check out the Olympic Cycling Classic on May 19. http://www.olympiccyclingclassic.com

    Wish I could...

I would have like to try the Olympic Cycling Classic, but I will be at the Northwest Land Trust Conference in Missoula, MT on that date.
