Glen Oaks Road, Yucaipa, CA Rides?

This is my first post ever and I don't really know what I am doing.
    So here goes.
I am training for the Aids Life-Cycle ride in June and next weekend I am going to be going up to Yucaipa, CA. I was wondering if anyone knew of any rides I could join on Sat. morning or knew of any good routes. I am riding between 10 - 15 mph with some hills.

Road up to Oak Glen is moderately difficult. You go from about 2,000 feet to just over 6,000 feet in elevation. From Yucaipa, you would have to ride over to Beaumont then start your climb. Parts of the ride averages over 6% grade. You will need a SAG to give you some water on the way up. the weather is already getting pretty warm and dry up there. So unless you have two water bottle cages on the frame and additional two bottle cages on the back of your seat, I think it would be a stretch to ride up to Oak Glen without a SAG.

If you are living in Palos Veredes Peninsula I can suggest several routes for training. Please PM me and we can talk where you might want to ride and how long. Big loop, or shorter loop with hard hill climb, or just down the coast line..

Check your PM and look for my phone number and we can talk.

    sincerely,
    Shawn

smilingcat is (once again!) correct. The roads are barren out there, they are narrow, and there can be traffic especially on a weekend. I lived in the mountains north of there (Lake Arrowhead area) and used to travel off the mountain to ride. I take it you won't be with a group?

I used to do a really great loop starting at Cal State San Bernardino. The traffic wasn't all that bad and there were enough hills to make it interesting PM me if you want it but I think it is too far away from you. Hey, you know what...I believe there is a Redlands Cycling Club. I bet they have a website (or maybe Riverside does also) with some bike routes.

    p.s.

Congrats on the ride. I did it by a different name in 2000. There are challenges but you will have a great time! Take LOTS of pictures!!!! The people on the way are so great, also. It wasn't just the riders but the people whose towns we rode through, they would give us food/drink or just cheer us on!

    Thanks

SmilingCat and Teigyr for the info. I would be alone and I would have plenty of water. I am a big water drinker. I have two bottles on the bike and a camelpak on my back. I do ride pv some, I did Del Corte (do you know that hill ) to Marina Del Rey and back last Sat. 60+ miles. I haven’t gone over Hawthorne or PV dr E yet. But I will. I think if I don't find a riding group up there in Yucaipa (actually Pilgrim Pines), I will just go for a long hike. It's so beautiful there.
Teigyr I’ll check for any cycling clubs too, because I really don’t want to ride alone.

    Thanks, B
