we had the Arizona Senior Games in February. Theres a 5k and 10k time trial on saturday, then a 20k and 40k road race on sunday. i found the secret to gold. be the only one in your age class. i was the only 50-54 year old woman so i got four gold medals.
the first year i rode, i thought it would be a piece of cake, being a relatively fit bicyclist. man was i surprised.
    these people are fast.
the 55-59 y.o.men are the fastest. since there are so few women (i think there were about 8 of us) all the women started the road races together. first they let off the 50-54 men, then a minute later the 55-59 men, then the women, then the 60-64 men, then 65-69.
well, the 60-64 men passed us in both races and the 65-69 men passed us in the 40k.
i'll need more tour de garage time for next year. i concentrated on time trialling on the trainer and ended up with the best time in both time trials for all the women, but slower than all but the 70 and up men.

Don't let that take anything away from your accomplishment. YOU still trained hard and did it!

I always say maybe I can qualify for the Hawaii Ironman when I'm 72.

"Keep plugging along. The finish line is getting closer with every step. When you see it, you won't remember that you are hurting, that anything has gone wrong, or just how slow or fast you are.
You will just know that you are going to finish and that was what you set out to do."
