    Talking Year of the Pig

    To disable ads, please log-in.

So it's the Chinese year of the Pig. I am a pig and proud to admit it. Some of my Chinese friends told me that if it is *your* year you are supposed to wear red clothes for the first 14 days of the new year to bring you luck. I was quite diligent about this, even if it was only red underwear.

Pigs in Chinese culture are seen as particularly lucky. They are prized animals and get to lay around all day while other people feed them, hence their rep for being lucky. Good things come to them without them having to work for it.

How has this year been treating me so far. Excellent. Curiously, everyone keeps giving me consumeables - wine, cookies, chocolates...

Now I'm wondering, is this because it's the year of the pig and I'm a pig?

    or

Am I getting all this stuff because I complain about being hungry all the time from my training program?

    or

Are they fattening me up to eat me later?

    hahaha

I think they are giving you all the things they wish they could get away with eating, but they know they shouldn't, and that you can definitely afford to eat with all your training!

    "pig" out, my friend!

Oink - oink. Fellow pig here.

    From wikipedia

The Pig type is usually an honest, straightforward and patient person. They are a modest, shy character who prefers to work quietly behind the scenes. . . . The people of the pig type are conservative creatures of habit. They dislike being made to travel too far from familiar surroundings, unless it is a trip to the countryside. They love nature and are never happier than when they are out somewhere, far from the city.

That's me, modest and shy. But they do have me nailed cold for the travel part.

Inerterestly, there are different types of pigs depending on when you were born. I'm an earth pig. Let's just not call me a mud pig.

Wahine- I love ya dearly but this is not how I would describe you or Yehzen( a Chinese friend)
Good thing there are different personality types within the groups- I can attest to the lucky part-
well I hope all of you have a great year

Pika - I know not what you mean by your post. I'm always shy and quiet. I like to keep a low profile.

As for type of pig. I'm a metal pig. This apparently means that I am unflinchingly loyal, or something like that. That part's true at least.

I've always thought it would be interesting to have someone interpret all of the different "signs" together. For instance, I'm a libra, water sheep, and in nine ki I'm metal metal. So, let's see: I am metal, water and air. Does that make me rust??

    Hugs and pig-faced butterflies,

I'm not a pig but an Ox and a Virgo to boot, sheesh.. That makes for one bull headed beast, but with a Leo Sun and Rising sign what a mess!

The Ox of Chinese Astrology is no bull in a china shop. Steadfast and solid, this powerful Sign is a born leader, being quite dependable and possessing an innate ability to achieve great things. Oxen tend to be plodding and methodical; they approach projects in the step-by-step manner that serves them best, and they never lose sight of their goal. They are tireless workers who are detail-oriented and believe in doing things right the first time.
The world may perceive Oxen as being far too serious or incapable of loosening up. This sturdy sort is less than social by nature and tends to become introverted in a crowd. To make things worse, they can't be bothered with what other people think and prefer to do what makes them feel best. Behind that calm facade, though, lives an Ox who can feel hurt, lonely and unable to connect with others. Friends and family are a great source of comfort to this beast, even if they don't always understand what makes the Ox tick. As a lover, friend, family member or housemate, the Ox makes a wonderfully strong, tender and affectionate companion who is protective and always reliable.
Out in the world, though, Oxen tend to be stubborn, dogmatic, my-way-or-the-highway kind of people who have no concept of when to back down. Oxen don't care to be pushed, especially since they think they're the good guys of the Chinese Zodiac. There is some truth to that theory, since the Ox is smart, trustworthy, caring and honorable. If you need honest, steady and unbiased advice, call on the Ox.
A good lesson for mighty Oxen is to strive to overcome a judgmental nature that keeps them from getting close to others. If they can learn to value their own good qualities, they'll have more room in their hearts to invite others in.
