I took my GRE today and now I'm done with it!!!! I'm sooooo happy!!!! I did all right on the test, but I'm just glad to be done!! Yay me!!!!

(I nearly had a heart attack when I thought I was gonna have to re-take that puppy, cuz my scores are 17 years old. But the grad school will accept my old scores, whew!)

I took my GRE about 2 years ago. I love how you get your scores right then and there.

As long as you got the grades that will get you into your Grad program, is all that matters.

When I took the GRE it was only offered twice a year. You had to pack into a huge lecture hall with a bunch of other stressed-out students and a #2 pencil. There were proctors and monitors and time limits. If you got sick or your car broke down on the way, you had to wait another six months to take the test.

And I think I waited 2 months to get my results.

Woo-hoo, Meaux! So nice to have that over with!

I had the same panic as you, Knot, when I applied to grad school something like 9 years after I'd taken the GRE--fortunately, my school accepted the old scores too. Whew--bullet definitely dodged there!

LBTC: GRE = Graduate Record Exam--most grad schools want your GRE scores when you apply for admission.

I hope my grades are good enough. I was a little wild when I was in college, so I probably didn't study as much as a should have or do as well as I had needed to. Hindsight is 20/20, I suppose. I'm older and more grounded and don't take things for granted as much as I used to. If I don't get into a grad program that I want to, I'll just get another bachelor's. Nothing like racking up that student loan bill!!!

I was talking to a grad admissions officer a couple of months ago, he said that once you've got a few years of life experience under your belt AND you can articulate that experience well in your personal statement, it can carry more weight that the statistics from your "wild" younger days. Thanks, Queen. I need the encouragement. Grad school is something I've wanted to do since a was in junior high, I just somehow lost sight of it when I was in school. Once I graduated and got my bachelor's and worked some in the "real" world, I realized how much I needed to be in school. Like I said, I just hope my average grades won't get in the way of my future PhD-ness. I like the idea of being Dr. and Mr. Meaux. Hee hee.

I went for a second Master's instead of a PhD simply because I did my "grad assist" hours in a computer lab and saw how stressful it was and for what I wanted to do, it wasn't necessary. I could do the academics, it's the other parts (I remember a lot of 'em, like this poor lady who was trying to get Microsoft Word to NOT mess with her outline format because of course if it didn't come out EXACTLY as instructed, sorry, not acceptable).

I think I want to do a PhD, and I was told by one of my teachers that I should tell the grad schools that I plan on going to for the PhD, so the schools will fund me like a doctoral candidate. I'm thrilled that I'm done with the GRE, now it's just the waiting game to see who wants to take me and how much they want to pay me to go there. This is almost as bad as it was leading up to the test!

When I took the GRE I had to travel 2 hours out of state because the then governor of New York would not allow the test to be given within NY because the test questions were not made public after the exam. The upside was that during the overnight hotel stay I got to know the person I later dated and married.
