BikeMomma? Anyone? What do you know about this ride. I'm setting up my century schedule in the effort of getting me in shape for summer bike trips.

Several of the pages on the web site won't load.

Just to answer officially (rather than pm's -- thanks for waking me up...didn't see this thread! ), no -- haven't done this one, but have heard some favorable comments here and there from local riders who do centuries.

Should be hot in June, but still fairly nice if you get an early start (you know the Valley oven...).

I'm thinking BikeGoddess may have done this one -- might be wrong though. She's done the McLane (now the MERCO Credit Union Foothill century, fyi) century here in Merced in the past, so she may have done Modesto's.

    Hope this helps...

I haven't done this century. I do know that Del Puerto Canyon has some steep pitches on the way up to Mines Road junction. This is one of those rides I'd like to do. Maybe this year if some of you are doing it.

Hey, BG -- thanks for answering. Howz it goin'?

SK -- looking at the race calendar, there's a race I'd like to do on the same day (Fremont Criterium). But still please hit me up when it gets closer to the day, if you're doing this, so I can see where I'm at for training, etc.

I think The Pilot did the metric century last year. I'll see if I can get ride details from him.

I did a loop out of Livermore that included Del Puerto Canyon last year. It was about 105 - 110 miles, in January, so it was relatively early in the year for a century. It wasn't bad at all. I don't think the climbs in DP Canyon are nearly as long as Mines - I only remember one tough part that was very short.

I'm not just shining you on.

Look at my BJournal for stats on what I did - I would have called it Del Puerto canyon ride or Resolution century or something like that.

The Hamilton route would be a great one.

Yeah this ride has piqued my interest too.

That's an area where a supported ride would be nice.

Eagerly awaiting a flight report from the Pilot. Have to go stalk MP's journal now.

Wow - I just looked at my BJ entry. Woefully nondescript, huh? That's one of my resolutions for this year - give better BJ ride descriptions. It's funny but something I am dead serious about. When I couldn't ride last year, I would go back and read the journal and wished I had written more for the rides.

Well, that whole first part of that ride (after Patterson pass) was dead flat. We worked in a pretty fast group to slog through it all. I had a lot of fun. Rode mostly with Stacy. Once we crossed I - 5 into DP Canyon, some nice rolly climbs started. Towards the end - right before the Junction - there was a steeper climb, but it wasn't very long. From the junction to Livermore is always one of my favorite rides, though I recall a stiff headwind going back up that canyon.

Aren't those canyons all about the wind?

The Pilot's report: he actually did the full century (well, excuse me), liked it, and would do it again. The DP climb is about 24 miles, wth a 1.5 mile somewhat steep section near the top. Lunch stop food was not good (ruling this ride out for me ). It was unseasonably cool on ride day last year, and winds were not a problem.
