    Question The 2007 Giant Line

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I'm hoping someone here will know:

Went in to to try on the Boulder SE 12.5, men's, and it was too big. LBS owner said he will order me the women's version in 14 & it should fit just fine. This started a debate between him & another LBS worker about whether the 2007's were out. LBS worker stated that Giant only releases it's >$1000 2007 models in 2006, but it waits till 2007 for the bikes under $1000. Then they said that the 2007 OCR-3 is already out & it's not over 1g, so perhaps they have changed their policy.

I was asked if given a choice, whether I wanted the 2006 or 2007 model. I was rather truthful in that I didn't care, I expected to pay about $300-$400 for the bike, so if I could get an older model with better parts, that'd work too.

Does anyone know if the cheaper 2007's are out? Can't find it on the website.

I'm not sure about Giant's line, but the year doesn't matter to me as much as the components. I have a Specialized Dolce with 105 parts and have just found out that their new 2007 version has Tiagra components.

    Blue Tree,
I have a 2006 Dolce Elite as well. I can't believe Specialized downgraded the components, I think the price is a little lower too maybe. I was trying to remember the MSRP for the 2006 model, $1200 maybe? The 2007 model is $1100. Either way, that kinda sucks.

Paigette-Don't let your LBS talk you into buying a more expensive bike just becuase it's the 2007 model. I would do your homework and see if the components have changed drastically from one year to the next. As long as they're comprable, why not go for the 2006 model and save a few hundred dollars?

Oh, no, he wasn't trying to pressure me.....but I was curious about the possible differences. Everything that I'm pulling up does not mention a 2007 model being out, so I think I'll be ok.

    Thanks, though!

On Giants website they list all the components for each model year. You can compare. If you see any changes you don't understand, post them and we can help you.

I personally would get the discount on the '06 if there are not major changes. (And insist on a discount, don't ever say it doesn't matter which bike you buy.)

Giant usually releases their over $1000 price point bikes after Interbike (end of September). The OCR models were released early this year since there were some new changes and because they ran out of the '06 models. The '07 Boulder will be available after January. This is when the hybrids, under $1000 mountain bikes, comfort bikes, and kids bikes will change. As a dealer, I only have info and products shown at Interbike. I haven't seen anything on the other bikes. Hope this helps.
