new bike in my kitchen!

I picked up my bike tonight. It's a 1987 Schwinn World Sport. My lbs said it was in great shape and they would check it over, put on new tape and I got clips and a computer. $100.00 later I got my bike home and the rear brake sticks!!! After I apply my rear brake, one side releases and the other side stays in contact with the rim . I'll call them tomorrow and bring it back in on Friday but MAN I WANNA RIDE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! My only consolation is that it is cold, dark, windy and sleeting, so I guess I wouldn't be out riding anyway.

Does your LBS wash your bike after a tune up? This place didn't but another place I have used does. I'm just currious as to what is the norm.

I think this is the bike I will learn to turn a wrench on. Gotta get to the store and buy a Zinn's.

I read your other post re: the bianchi and the specialized... great taste in bikes! (i'm drooling over the specialized rockhopper... bought a 3-yr old bianchi as my first "real bike" last fall )
the rear brake is probably just out of alignment... if you can wiggle the arms back and forth, you could prob. tighten it yourself with an allen wrench (hex key) so it stays straight... at least, that worked on my cruiser (i don't know a whole lot about brakes, or how much they've changed...) i'll bet the lbs could fix it while you wait, though, or show you how so you can do it in the future never fear, saturday should be lovely riding weather in Michigan (at least, i hope! my mom is visiting and we're planning a long ride!)
if you want to learn to turn a wrench, try out Bicycling Magazine's guide to bike maintenence... it has good directions and pictures, and it's the only way i can save face around the guys (i can now lube my chain, fix a flat, adjust my brakes, and remove/replace the wheels... but not much else yet...still have some reading to do! ) sometimes your LBS will offer classes too... i'm planning on taking one this summer.
last time i brought my cruiser in for a tune-up the lbs washed it off... but it was reeeeaaaaally grimy (i had taken it off-road for a mtn race... not reccommended ) so i think they had to wipe it off just to see what was going on!

A shop that washes off your bike as a courtesy? Wow! That sounds like a place I'd love to have around here. But don't I always clean mine before I take it into the shop so I'm not embarrased by having a dirty bike. They've actually thanked me for it, saying how much easier it is to work on. Besides, I really try to keep my babies clean........ everything not only looks better but runs better and last longer. I don't know that I'd trust anyone else to clean them as carefully as I do...... Am I paranoid, or what???
