    Ramping up during midwest winter

I was wondering what I can do to get myself in shape now that we're going into winter so that I'm able to go out in spring with a vengance.

I was on my feet for 6 hours yesterday and my back was killing me. That just shows how far I have fallen abs-wise, as I worked out with a personal trainer last Jan-March and I was really on my way to being in kick-butt shape. Unfortunately, it got too expensive, and now it's REALLY too expensive. So I have to figure out what to do on my own.

Here are a couple of issues I have.

    1) I do own a gym membership, with good classes, but I can't do high-impact aerobics because a) my right knee is permanently messed up and b) I get shin splints.

    2) Spinning is good, and I have a spinning/pro spinning bike at home. I tend to put on too much resistance because otherwise I feel like I'm 'not doing anything.'

    3) I need to weight lift, but I'm being lazy, so someone please kick my butt.

Does anyone have a routine they can share? Like: Monday, x, Tuesday, y, Wednesday x...etc? I have to schedule things or I'll never do it. Is there a good training book with this kind of thing in it?

For now, until I get sick of getting up at 4:45 am, I'm doing classes at the Y before work.

Monday and Wednesday is Group Cycling. Tuesday and Thursday is Boby Pump. I'm still trying to ride as much as I can on the weekends.

Once winter kicks in around here I can add snowboarding to my workout routine.

I personally do not care for gyms. As soon as I am medically cleared, I will begin swimming and cycling again. For now I am out running or indoors doing HIIT training. I do a lot of sculpting work, yoga, and pilates as well.

Check out the college teams in town, the season starts in Feb, so they will be hitting it hard after the holidays. Ususally a local shop will sponsor and provide training space, etc... While you won't be able to race, I'm sure they would be glad for another training partner.
