A very funny entry in a very funny cycling blog. If you haven't already discovered Fat Cyclist, this would be a good place to start:

Do you believe in the Chupacabra?

    Another goat story

This is weird, just a few days ago I headed out on my bike and there was a goat in the road by my house. Obviously someone's pet. I thought that he would just run home if I headed toward him but NO...he was going with me! He was running like mad beside me. I didn't want him hit by any cars when I got to a busier road, so I turned around and headed home. I went in the house to get the police number (and dog-catcher) and he comes in with me! Friendliest darn thing I've ever seen. The police show up, they have a hard time getting him in the squad car because they are laughing so hard. They call the station and tell them they are bringing in a black male suspect. (Everyone is a comedian, right?) They found the owner, but not before the goat became the talk of the town. He spent a few days tied up in the City Marshall's yard.

Oh wow, a pet goat! And he rode in the police car! I love it!

My husband and I were in Kansas (I think) driving down the highway when we saw a herd of cattle walking down a long driveway and about to head into the road.

My husband pulled into the driveway and stopped. They stared at him. He rolled forward. Slowly they turned around and headed back up the driveway toward the open gate they'd escaped from. We herded them back in (you "herding" the goat away from the main road is what reminded me of this) but they wouldn't all go back through the gate. I went up to the farm house and knocked on the door. Nobody home.

Oh well. We backed up and back onto the highway.

    We looked.

The cattle was headed back down the driveway toward us.

So, sigh. We pulled back in. We sat there, not certain what to do.

So we used the cell phone, called 9-1-1 and told them what was going on. We didn't have an address so had to just describe the house and approximate location.

We waited about fifteen minutes, and finally no cop car, but a truck pulled in. (It was a small town -- I guess our description was enough for them to know who to call.) The truck passed around us on the driveway, so we left.

It was odd that the driver didn't wave, didn't thank us. Just passed us, got out of his truck and started rounding the cattle back where they belonged.

However, we were very good cattle herders. Well, except for the not-all-going-through-the-gate part.

We're Texans. Have minivan, will herd.

    Bring on the goats.
