Apparel for "Big Ladies"?

Does anyone make plus-size cycling gear? I'm a "big lady", and have had a really hard time finding shorts and jerseys to fit me. I hate wearing mens' jerseys because they tend to taper in the hips, but I'm wide in the hips. Most of the women's gear that I've found only goes to a L and the XLs even seem a little small. HELP!!! I'm beginning to think that all the female cyclists are teeny women!!

Be sure to check the sizing charts, and call Team Estrogen if you still have questions. European brands (like Assos, Castelli, and Giordana) tend to run a bit small. But many American brands (like Cannondale) run "big", so even if you are truly plus-sized, you can wear an XL.

Anothr issue is that some manufacturers consider a 12 an XL (bastids) or a 14 or ... you never know. So another reason to check sizing charts.

I'm borderline between XL and Plus-size and sometimes buy more than one size so I can find the best fit, then return the others. I have returned a lot of stuff that didn't fit, but figure it's worth it to find the things that do.

I like my Boure road shorts which come in a lot of plus-sizes.

I've found this to be true with brands like Terry and Shebeest. I wear XL in most street shorts, but L in bike shorts. This isn't so true with jerseys, though.

oooh!, I LOVE "The Slow Fat Triathlete!!" I may never do a tri, but she really helped me get my head on straight. Meaux, I'm a size 18 now in most things, and I've done well with Terry shorts, XXL. I have a Mt. Borah jersey that is servicable but I don't love it. It seems cheaply made and poorly sewn (I'm picky about sewing, mom's fault, and maybe I just got one that's slightly off.) I'm looking forward to treating myself to a Terry jersey, but I gotta watch my spending.

I used to be much bigger - definitely a PLUS size lady. The best fitting clothing I found were either at Mt. Borah or Terry. Mt. Borah's clothing was very roomy but a bit plain. Terry usually has good cuts and pretty patterns. Unfortunately Terry right now you'll have to wait for their spring catelog although some of the 2006 Terry jerseys are sold through TE.

Terry does have some cool stuff for fall, though!
