    Tyres?

So i'm riding a Carerra Subway 1 with the stock slick hybrid road style tyres...i'm finding i'm not very confident in them. If i hit any kind of wetness or loose surface i skid out and my steering and braking becomes erratic...eeek!

Do i need to toughen up and get over it? Do i need slightly more knobbly tyres?

    many thanks

How wide are your tires? Wider tires could help.

You may want to try switching to something with a bit more tread. There are several types of tires that are lightly treaded in the center and a bit more knobby at the edges. They are designed to give you fairly smooth riding on roads and a bit more bite on less that perfect roads. My hybrid came with Kenda Kourier tires which are like that. I eventually ended up trading them for Panaracer TServ tires. These are narrower than my stock tires and not knobby, but with enough tread to give me confidence.
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

SOunds like they're *wide* enough but not the right tread.

I have nice ones that are slicker in the middle than the outside.
