I just want to let those of you WI mountain bikers know that the Mad FORCs (my race team) are doing a free Learn to Race Clinic this Saturday from 2-4pm. It will be held at Devil's Head Resort. Basic race skills will be discussed as well as a pre-ride of the Citizen's race course. It will be an exciting weekend of racing - Cross Country, Super D Time Trial, Downhill and Short Track events will be held.
    Just keep pedaling.

    Renee,
How tough will this course be? I haven't been on my bike in about 6 weeks so I have no legs. If you preride the citizens course, how much time is actually spent on skills during the 2 hours?

Devils Head is a tough course (and a fun course too). It's a downhill skil resort. It's the only WORS race where they actually have a downhill competition. It is also very technical. Logs piles, rock gardens, bridges, fast downhill sections.

The two hour clinic can be whatever we make it, but it is our intention to introduce beginners to WORS XC racing. I figure we will take people on a pre ride of the course (which might take 45 minutes to 1 hour). We can talk about the rules of WORS racing, how to correctly pass and be passed. We can look at difficult sections of the course and help find the "easiest" or the most "efficient" line. And we could even talk a little about cornering, climbing and descending. I feel like I can explain it very well now....since I attended a mini skills camp with Alison Dunlop (one of the best mountain bike racers in the world). She had great explainations of every skill we practiced as well as reasons why we do it that way.

If you weren't sure, you could just preride the course on Saturday and if it was too much then don't sign up to race. Just consider it a fun day of mountain bike riding. I think a pass costs $7. Plus there will be plenty of events to watch on Saturday and Sunday.
    Just keep pedaling.
