    Smile Weight loss goals

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I know a lot of us on here ride for better health and to lose some pounds. How many of you started riding with the specific goal of getting down to a certain weight and how many of you have accomplished that goal?

How many times a week did you ride, what other workout plan did you implement, how much did you change your eating habits? I need some inspiration at this point. The scale isn't moving.

Actually, cycling is one of my weight loss goals!

In 2004, I tipped the scales right around 200 pounds, which is a lot of weight for my 5 ft tall body! I started watching what I ate & got a personal trainer. I always loved the idea of cycling but thought I was too big to be comfortable in spandex, so I always said that if I got below 150 I'd buy a bike.

I'm currently at 148, so Oscar came home with me Anywhosits, I am now incorporating cycling as my cardio (minimum of 45 minutes, 5-6 times weekly) with strength training(2-3 days weekly) routines that my trainer comes up with. As for food, I'm a cals in versus cals out, and track all that on www.sparkpeople.com

Overall goal is to get down to about 120-125.

That's great! You must feel wonderful.

I'm 212 and 5'6 and this is the heaviest I've ever been. However, I feel great and I don't feel like the technically "obese" person that I'm labled. I know I'd feel even better with more weight off though. I'm wanting to get down to 145 if not a tad lower. So far I've been riding a lot but the scale doesn't move. My biggest problem is that I'll ride and then my friends will want to go out to dinner and I end up eating a piece or two of pizza. I've got to get better at enjoying salad!

    I'm with you two!

... I recently (on Saturday!) learned about doing long, slow distances - at a reasonable heart rate and before eating in the morning - for fat burning. Just started with this on Sunday, so 2 days doesn't really give me a track record as of yet. But I had lost 30 lbs on a trek to the base camp of Mt. Everest 2 years ago - and it was basically the same thing, just walking for 6+ hours and eating 3 meals a day. Of course, I can't dedicate more than 1-2 hours each morning... so it's going to be slow. I need to lose another 20-22 lbs to get back to where I was. Hopefully this will do it. Got all my fingers crossed.

I am 5' 7" and 182lbs trying to get down to 154. Last year I lost 20lbs cycling 4 times a week and eating tons of fresh food instead of the processed food I had been living off. Now I have become stuck at this weight so need to make a change to restart my loss. I've always cycled since childhood on and off, mostly mountain biking but last year I bought my first road bike and I'm loving the speed and instant response. Most of my weight has piled on since I left college and started work. I use to play a lot of field hockey and studied sports science at college so psychologically I still see myself as a sporty person but unfortunately physically my reflection suggests otherwise!

I find this forum very inspiring and would even love to see a sub-forum just for weight loss so it was easier to see people's progress and tips. I realise it is primarily a forum about cycling, and there are many more forums out there for weight loss, but I just think it is so cool to see how other people are tackling the same goal as me using their love of cycling to counteract their love of all thing lardy!!

In 3 months I am doing my first 10K running race to raise money for Cancer Research as my mum was recently diagnosed. I need to figure out a way to combine running training with my cycling which could be a bit tricky, but I know the 'pain' of my exercise is nothing compared to her surgery or chemo.

Anyhoo... I just wanted to say a big hi and thank you to all you motivating women here who keep me going.

I just recently added cycling to the mix of exercise that I do. Last summer I hit 197 lbs, which is more than I weighed the week before I gave birth to my 6-year old twins. This was a turn around moment for me and I got serious about working out again. I set a goal of running a triathlon this summer (I am registered to do 2) and taking off the weight. I am 5' 5.5" and a bit top heavy. My goal is 50 lbs lost, so 147lbs final weight.

When I started working out just before labor day I was using cardio machines and working with a trainer. In January I added spin classes. This spring I have been cycling with my kids, which is long slow stuff and hopefully I will get out on my first group ride this friday, but I am not sure that I can. I am also running two days a week and working with a trainer one day a week.

I am currently 23 lbs toward my goal. As for diet, I am trying to eat more sensibly, eat less junk, but not really stick to a strict diet.

I have kind of a weird situation. I purchased my bike because I was in the middle of a 'body transformation' and my cardio fitness level had surpassed what my flat feet could handle. At the time, I was fit enough that only running would get my HR where it needed to be. The problem was that I couldn't run for the number of minutes/distance I needed in order to lose the last 15 lbs without triggering foot problems from the impact.

I purchased my bike, loved the immedate challenge it gave me, and then proceeded to eat like it wouldn't matter anymore! Anyway, a year later, I'm about 10 lbs heavier than I was (so now I'm 25 lbs away from my goal).

I'm 5'4" and would like to be at 130 lbs. I'm quite muscular, so 130 would put me at a body fat of about 13-14%... very fit. Now...if I could just lay off the fit newtons and the pizza!

Just a bunch of regular-type people trying to lose weight by cycling. Most have a set goal they are working toward and we post our miles/km whenever we bike. My first goal was 500k by the end of June, then I changed it to 800k, now I'm aiming 1000km although I expect to hit that this week

GLC, fig newtons aren't bad unless you eat them by the bag! zero fat!

I want to lose about 15-20 lbs. Started to cycle because I live on a fairly flat, country road, paved and thought that I had better take full advantage of it!. I can rid for almost an hour and only one or two cars will pass me. It is two miles to the "corner" so I do the round trip twice, eventually I will venture out more...just wish I had someone to ride with for a longer trek. I figure if I have any flats, etc. at most I am two miles from home...walkable! Of course, I have my cell phone with me!

I was getting bored on the treadmill and also wanted to add cycling to my workout routine..while the weather is decent!
