My boyfriend PROPOSED! i am so excited!!!
we are now busy trying to come up with a vision for our wedding for next May. Of course BIKING will be on the agenda. But how? (other than me riding in on my Trek Fuel in my big white dress )

does anyone have any ideas on how we can incorporate our passion for riding into our wedding?

Congratulations Han. What sort of riding are you in to?

Depending when the wedding is maybe you could plan a honeymoon trip to Europe and take in some cycling at the same time - Tour de France, Tour of Italy, Tour of Spain, or earlier in the year they have the Spring Classics like Paris- Roubaix or Tour of Flanders.

Then again, why not take yourselves off to a cosy cottage hideaway in the Swiss Alps or the Pyranees and pass the time cycling and er.. relaxing

I've planned a few of these

The Bachelorette Party: We rode around town on our MTBs. Every attendee had a veil, white gloves, and flowers on her handlebars. Followed by champagne and snacks at a friend's house. We called it "The Bride Ride".

The Wedding: I attended a wedding at the JP's where each guest (and the bride and groom) rode to the wedding.

Where to register?: At your LBS of course. Pick out the tandem of your dreams!

Start/End of a Ride/Race/Event: Did you meet your sweetie at the local Century? A yearly MTB race? Plan to wed there.

Cake Topper: I'm sure a "Google" will turn up a link; if not consider fabricating your own. We did a groom's cake (chocolate w/ chocolate frosting) that had MTBing Teddy Grahms all over it one time. Cute and tasty!

Casual Catering: ( perhaps the rehersal dinner?)....bike-shaped pasta and Fat-Tire Ale of course!

maybe your table favors could be chocolates shaped like bikes? There are a lot of different candy molds out there and they are not hard to make ...

the bows on the pews could be gears, etc ...

could have a "watermark" type of background image on the invitations/announcements/what have you that are a bicycle gear or a silohuette of you two "riding off into the sunset"..... ooh, now that would be neat!!!

you could toast with water bottles instead of champagne glasses, or have water bottles imprinted with the wedding info as favors ...

thanks for all your great ideas. so far we are going to make chain napkin rings for the reception, and i am trying to find a bike stamp for our invitations (our friend is making them). i have ordered a bike shape mold as well for the chocolates (but the store doesn't guarantee it will find one).


Oddly enough there isn't a single bicycle thing for crafts anywhere in ottawa. I find it strange considering how cycling is such an important part of our culture here...

if anyone has any links for molds or stamps please let me know...

there's a gal who does custom cake toppers, I think she uses FIMO. Some friends of mine has some made: they are little statues that look just like them, slightly caricature-ish, that they get to keep. Search for "custom cake toppers?"

Again, Congratulations! I hope you two have a long and happy life together! I sure found my perfect mate (he loves to bike)...we will be celebrating our 26th this October. And guess what we'll be doing? LOL Yep, we are going away for the weekend to a ... you guessed it .... a biking festival in Methow Valley! I can't wait!

Have a morning wedding, then you can have the reception going into the afternoon, change into bike clothes, and ride off together on your tandem.

Congradulations! That is wonderful news. I don't know the website but a popular crafts store that usually carries everything is Michaels. At least here in the states its very popular. You have gotten a lot of wonderful ideas including one I was going to suggest. As far as wedding toppers goes, its really easy to get a base and customize your own. I did that for our wedding eight years ago and my husband was so impressed. A lot of people don't even use typical wedding toppers so you could go that route and just look for a small figurine of two people riding a bike and use that as a cake topper. Stores that carry collectibles or decorative figurines would probably be the best place to find one. Depending on what kind of material a figurine like that is made of, it might even be possible to repaint the two figures to resemble you and your fiance. I painted the wedding couple on the cake topper I made to resemble my husband and I. I felt it was really important since all the usual wedding cake toppers have a blond bride and I have very dark hair. If I find out any good websites for crafts I'll email them to you.

People on top of the cake is actually not done in a lot of circles (here comes the bad pun! ) so use an object- my thought is a pair of shiny 7005 rear cogs linked with a peice of chain wrapped around. Lots of appropriate symbolism, something different, and you can nail it up in the house as art after. Put a lot of pretty flowers around it.
If you're doing the church thing, I just rounded up a bunch of chainrings and goodies to make bike girl tiaras. Yes I'm that tiara freak as well as a (semi) working artist. When are you doing this?
If you're doing this anywhere else, round up a bunch of old frames or whole bikes on the cheap (or free!) and have a freind who welds tack them into an arch; apply flowers. There's a giant bike arch in, I think it's Durango CO where all the riders live. Look for a picture. Anyway, you would get married under it instead of the usual trellis thingy. And you can get all white bike clothes. Course you may save clomping around in cleats for the vow renewal... Your mama and them have expectations.
Call up Susan at our gracious forum hosts TE and see if she has a line on cute bike crap. The people at Terry might help- they have a ton of neat stuff and may know where more comes from.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I am now searching for some kind of cake topper with a couple on a bike...has anyone seen one? i can't seem to find ANY kind of figurine with a boy/girl/bike theme to it.
