    Where to get blinkies??

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Does anyone know where to order blinkies? We only seem to get them from promotions, rides, etc., and have never been able to find any place that actually sells them, which seems totally weird. We wear them on the backs of our helmets. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Whoa, I just posted begging folks not to use strobing blinkies! Synchronicity! From the website, it looks like the RoadID ones don't strobe. Just nice slow blink. I hardly ever see strobing ones anymore. Maybe companies have stopped making them because they're so dangerous.

I get free blinkies at fun-runs, bike expos, etc. They don't last very long, but they're free!

I have a Nite Ize LED glowstick I bought at REI. Item 713306. (Ack! I tried to post a link, but it didn't work!) It does a steady glow or a reasonable blink and the battery is easy to replace.

I'm quite pleased with it. Nite Ize makes some other cool stuff, too. I clip this to my waist or helmet strap when I'm riding. Clips to my dog's leash when I'm walking him in the dark.

A blinkie is a round, flat reflector with a little LED blinking light in it. It's not very bright but is just enough to maybe catch someone's attention when it's on the back of your helmet, just in case the rear light on your back is for some reason blocked from their view. It's an el cheapo thing, and while in theory you can keep them going by replacing the little watch battery they run on, ours always seem to die regardless.

Actually, the blinkies from RoadID.com are small but are also very bright. I wear them when I walk in the winter, and I had a woman on a dark road tell me she thought I was a police car from the lights!

Lots of LED head and tail lights are blinkies (or have a setting that way).

I have the first one described here (the second one I found looking for the first one, 'cause I couldn't remember which syllable mangled the spelling).

You can get "regular sized" ones at nashbar or performance or the LBS... yea, far as I can tell, just about all of 'em are made in China...

OOoooOOOOOh now I know what a blinky is. I think here we just call them a flashing light.

We get these georgeous little lights here called a frog. They are made by a company called Knog and they are like these little rubber things that you simply clip on. The light itself is a small LED with a couple of different settings to make it flash. They make a few different coloured lights, including red, white, and blue. Check them out:

The company is quite new, but I think they are starting to take off world wide now.

Thanks, all. We already have the standard rear and front lights, which can be made to blink. I meant only the little, cheap, round reflectors that emit a fairly weak, small blinking light so that they don't hurt eyes but make your helmet more visible when you clip them to the back of the helmet. They seem to be a promotional thing and we have never found them for sale anywhere--no website, no LBS.

    Hey Trek420 -
Thanks for remembering... I was going to celebrate by commuting to work by bike today, but the weather forecast isn't really cooperating. If I can, I'll hop on my bike after work. If it's raining, well, I guess my celebration was this past weekend's 2-day ride to Maine and back. I'll post a reference to my journal as soon as I finish uploading the pictures.

Oh, and I have one of those Fun Source LEDs from TE - very cool light...

Those Frog lights look sweet. And for those of us in the states, I found that Knog has a US site for purchasing: http://www.knogusa.com/index.html?ta...tml&lang=en-us.

Yes the knog lights are pretty sweet. They are excellent if you need something to make you stand out to motorists when it is getting dark. I also find that the white LED is bright enough to give you good visibility when you get stuck in the dark riding home. I have had mine for over a year and they are still going strong. I haven't even changed the battery yet.

They're going to have to rename this forum... "Women's Cycling Discussion Forums and Writing WOrkshop" - but they REALLY should add that apostrophe!@!!!!!!

(And regarding a certain other punctuation-free post -- welp, there's always poetic license! I figured there was an e.e. cummings among us. Or, to metafforize, if I'm being a grammar cop, sometimes you figure somebody is driving that way because their wife is in labor or something so you just escort them along first and ask questions later :-))
